Drugs Respiratory Disorders

Advair (fluticasone and salmeterol). Fluticasone is a steroid. Advair prevents the release of substances in the
body that cause inflammation. Salmeterol is a bronchodilator. It works by relaxing muscles in the airways to
improve breathing. Advair is used to prevent asthma attacks. It is also used to prevent flare-ups or worsening of
chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) associated with chronic bronchitis and/or emphysema
Albuterol - is a bronchodilator that relaxes muscles in the airways and increases air flow to the lungs. Used to treat
or prevent bronchospasm in people with reversible obstructive airway disease. Used to prevent exercise-induced
bronchospasm.
Allegra - (fexofenadine) is an antihistamine that reduces the effects of natural chemical histamine in the body.
Histamine can produce symptoms of sneezing, itching, watery eyes, and runny nose.Used to treat the symptoms
of seasonal allergies (hay fever) in adults and children Also used to treat skin itching and hives caused by a
condition called chronic idiopathic urticaria in adults and children.
Asmanex -monetasone(moe MET a sone) is a corticosteroid. It helps decrease inflammation in your lungs. This
medicine is used to treat the symptoms of asthma. Never use this medicine for an acute asthma attack.
Atrovent (ipratropium bromide) Used to prevent bronchospasm, or narrowing airways in the lungs, in people
with bronchitis, emphysema, or COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease).
Brethine (Terbutaline) is a bronchodilator. Terbutaline works by relaxing muscles in the airways to improve
breathing. Terbutaline is used to treat bronchospasm (wheezing, shortness of breath) associated with lung
diseases such as asthma, bronchitis, and emphysema.
Clarinex (desloratadine) is an antihistamine that reduces the effects of the natural chemical histamine in the
body. Histamine can produce symptoms of sneezing, itching, watery eyes, and runny nose. Clarinex is used to treat
the symptoms of allergies, such as sneezing, watery eyes, and runny nose. It is also used to treat skin hives and
itching in people with chronic skin reactions.
Cromolyn sodium - Cromolyn sodium is an anti-inflammatory medication. It works by preventing the release of
substances in the body that cause inflammation. Cromolyn sodium nasal is used to prevent allergy symptoms such
as runny nose, stuffy nose, sneezing, itching, and post-nasal drip. Cromolyn sodium nasal will not treat allergy
symptoms that have already begun
DuoNeb - sterile inhalation solution containing a combination of albuterol and ipratropium. Albuterol and
ipratropium are bronchodilators that relax muscles in the airways and increase air flow to the lungs. DuoNeb is
used as an inhaled medication to prevent bronchospasm in people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
(COPD) who are also using other medicines to control their condition. DuoNeb inhalation solution is administered
via a nebulizer.
Foradil aerolizer - Formoterol is a long-acting bronchodilator that relaxes muscles in the airways to improve
breathing. Formoterol inhalation is used to prevent bronchospasm in people with reversible obstructive airways
disease, including symptoms of night-time asthma. It is also used in people with chronic obstructive pulmonary
disease (COPD) such as emphysema and chronic bronchitis
Mucinex - Dextromethorphan is a cough suppressant. It affects the signals in the brain that trigger cough reflex.
Guaifenesin is an expectorant. It helps loosen congestion in your chest and throat, making it easier to cough out
through your mouth. The combination of dextromethorphan and guaifenesin is used to treat cough and chest
congestion caused by the common cold, infections, or allergies. Dextromethorphan will not treat a cough that is
caused by smoking, asthma, or emphysema
Nasacort - Nasacort AQ is a nasal spray that contains triamcinolone - an adrenocortical steroid. It prevents the
release of substances in the body that cause inflammation. Used to treat nasal allergy symptoms such as sneezing,
itching, and runny nose caused by seasonal allergies or hay fever.

Spiriva - (tiotropium) is an anticholinergic agent. It works by enlarging the airways to allow easier breathing. It
comes as a capsule containing dry powder, which is inhaled through the mouth using the HandiHaler device.
Spiriva is used to prevent bronchospasm (narrowing of the airways in the lungs) in people with bronchitis,
emphysema, or COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease).
Symbicort (budesonide and formoterol). Budesonide is a steroid that reduces inflammation in the body.
Formoterol is a bronchodilator that relaxes muscles in the airways to improve breathing. Symbicort is used to
prevent bronchospasm in people with asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Tessalon (Benzonatate) is a non-narcotic cough medicine. It works by numbing the throat and lungs, making the
cough reflex less active. Benzonatate is used to relieve coughing
Theophylline - Theophylline is a bronchodilator. It works by relaxing muscles in the lungs and chest, and makes the
lungs less sensitive to allergens and other causes of bronchospasm. Theophylline is used to treat the symptoms of
asthma, bronchitis and emphysema.
Xolair (omalizumab) is an antibody that helps decrease allergic responses in the body. Xolair is used to treat
moderate to severe asthma that is caused by allergies in adults and children who are at least 12 years old. Xolair is
usually given after other asthma medications have been tried without successful treatment of symptoms
