CLINICAL AFFAIRS

2015-11-01, 6:27 PM

New York University Mail - Week of November 2nd, 2015 | Cla...

https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?ui=2&ik=4e816ac889&view...

Unless theres urgent information, expect clinical updates on the google drive and in the
newsletter every Sunday! View Avas Clinical Affairs GoogleDrive and check weekly
for update.
Constantly check the Clinical Breakdown for the latest updates.
When patients are seen for the first time in the clinic they are examined utilizing a D0150
examination. When seen in the admissions clinic, patients receive an automatic
treatment plan of D0150 plus radiology. Students do not receive CEE for examinations
performed in other departments including admissions.
When leaving the admissions clinic the D0150 should be completed, D0150A
should be in process and the radiographs (anticipated should be placed in in
process or completed if done). Unused treatment planned items are removed in
an overnight process.
PERIO: D3 Diagnostic Case Report (due by March 11 if you want a higher
grade/qualify for an A possibly.)
If you read the description, you will notice that this can only be done on a new
patient BEFORE the SRP is approved/swiped on the Treatment Plan.
Recommendation: Print this out and keep it in your locker. When you get a new
patient and you suspect they will need SRP, fill this form out and then call faculty
over.
Perio Graded Formatives (click here for guidelines)
Have you done 4 quadrants of SRP (the full Seg A,B,C)? Make your next patient's
SRP (2 quads) a graded formative. Faculty can help recommend what case is
good for your graded formative. It may be nice to print this out and keep in your
locker too.
Caries Risk Assessments (click to review CRA Guidelines)
Ask which faculty is available to approve CRA and note when they are in clinic;
you will want to do your pt recall on those days. Fill out the CRA form in '3 Risk
Assessment' as High or Moderate. You must know the appropriate steps to take
with each patient (e.g. if they are high risk, you must have prescribed them
Prevident 5000, know the radiograph recall etc.), and complete the appropriate
recall appointments with them. Once you have done that, their cases are eligible
to be reviewed by faculty.
Operative Class II & III Graded Formatives (you must do one of each)
If you have done five Class IIs or five Class IIIs, you are eligible to do graded
formatives (for either. e.g. if you have 5 Class IIs done and only two Class IIIs, you
can do Class II formative, but not Class III yet.)
Announce to faculty that you are doing the formative before you begin, and when
you mark the code as complete, also right-click and select 'Add Student
Evaluation' (or something along those lines!) before swiping the completed code.
The NYS regulations mandate that we transition toward a totally electronic prescription
program. Erx is the software that functions with axiUm.
Medication Reconciliation- This video will demonstrate how to enter existing
medications and import medications from eRx into axiUm.

TIPS FROM UPPERCLASSMEN

Collect payment up front for multi-step procedures so you can ensure the patient will return.
For example, collect the full root canal treatment payment BEFORE obturation so you can
finish the procedure. I say that cuz once the nerve is out, they'll never feel anything on that
tooth again and may not return for the filling since a.) they have to pay and b.) they are out
of pain (which was in all likelihood what they wanted anyways).
Do you have Eps from upperclassmen? Please share them by emailing me at rola@nyu.edu
