Chapter I

Introduction
Background of Study
People nowadays are living in an information age dependent upon digital Information.
Every type of job relies upon getting information, using it, managing it, and relaying
information to others. Computers enable the efficient processing and storage of
information. A grading system plays a key role in the management system of any
school. But, such systems do not often relate expectations, outcomes, and
performance. As each student desires to achieve a good score for each assignment,
exam, project and/or report, the whole process adds heavy workload for teachers in
order to make their evaluation fair, comprehensive, and accurate. From the faculty
perspective, these are necessary to avoid disagreement from students and parents. A
computerized grading system can help the teachers and students. The common
problems encountered in manual recording and computations are error- and filehandling, and redundancy. As the workload gradually increases with growing amounts
of grades and student lists that need to be attended, it becomes tedious on the part of
the teacher to proficiently manage them in time for documentation and file submission to
higher education authorities. As such, this paper aims to produce a workable
computerized grading system that will address these issues.

For the rising numbers of students at Sultan Kudarat State University Computerized
Grade Sheet and Grade Inquiry will be a big help to the university.

Objectives
General Objective:
The general objective of this study is to develop a Computerized Grade Sheet and
Grade Inquiry System for Sultan Kudarat State University.

Specific Objectives:
The proposed a project specifically aims the following:

To create a module that will record the students name, year level and section
To create a module that will record the students grade for quizzes, recitation,
project, and quarterly exam.
To create a module that will compute the students quarterly grade based on
input data
To create a module that will secure and maintain the integrity of data.
To generate report

Significance of the Project Study

This project aims to develop a Computerized Grade Sheet and Grade Inquiry
System that will help the university to have an easier and faster way on inquiring
grades.

Scope and Limitation

Can view the students records can compute the students grades the system is
password protected and can generate report. The system is cannot be viewed online.
The system has no password recovery.

Review of Related Literature
Research takes the advantage of the knowledge, which has accumulated in the past as
a result of constant human endeavour. It can never be undertaken in isolation of the
work that has already been done on the problems which are directly or indirectly related
to a study proposed by a researcher.

Technology has provided a huge improvement in the areas of tracking progress,

identifying needs, and effectively designing and managing instructional programs (U.S.
Department of Education, 2004)

Ansell and Park (2003) state that the rapid growth of school technology has caused
many states to write and/or adopt technology standards.

According to Menvin ( 2001) and Gross (2010), a number of research reviews

concerning methods of inquiry in social studies have been completed, since Inquiry
became an influential Social Studies Tool.

Massialas (2006) indicated that, at the secondary level, inquiry methods showed greater
efficiency over traditional methods.

Marsh (1975) indicated that the inquiry method is superior in terms of recall, transfer
and retention of data and in developing specific skills

According to Aquino (2005), importance of computer application is increasing day by

day. In the latest decades of the Millennium winning organization are those which are
willing to integrate business strategy and computer information technology in plying their
respective trades.

According to the project study in 2005 by Mr. Lopez, an computerized grading system
help and provide efficient and reliable services to the students, personnel and
administration. Moreover, this system improved the process of grade inquiry in terms of
searching and retrieving.

The thesis entitled Automated Grading System of LCC (2001) states that This study
was conducted to help the college faculty in the computation of students grades and to
help the college faculty in the computation of students grades and to provide them with
a tool or a system that would easily accommodate carefully manage the computation of
students grades with a large number of students, can generate a specially designed
report that will meet the requirements of the registrar and would provide efficient and
effective data storage and security to stored data.

technologically literate people.
