7. (a) (i) A machine manufacturing screws is known to produce 5% defective. In a random sample
of 15 screws, what is the probability that there are (a) Exactly 3 defectives (b) Not more
than 3 defectives.

(ii) The daily consumption of milk in excess of 20,000 gallons is approximately exponentially
distributed with mean 3000. The city has a daily stock of 35,000 gallons. What is the
probability that of two days selected at random, the stock is insufficient for both days. (8)

(b) (i) Calculate the moment generating function of Poisson distribution with parameter , Prove
that the mean and variance of the Poisson distribution are equal.
