Al trmino de esta sesin usted podr:

1. EL PRESENTE CONTINUO.
El presente continuo se usa principalmente para hablar de sucesos o acciones que
acontecen en el presente inmediato, es decir acciones que estn ocurriendo ahora o en
un tiempo cercano a ahora.
Este tiempo verbal se conforma empleando el verbo To Be, que ya conocemos del
captulo I, ms otro verbo al que le agregamos la terminacin ING. Sobre esto ltimo
observa el siguiente recuadro en el que podrs conocer otro verbos, distintos al verbo To
Be.

VERBOS
Sing

: cantar

Sleep

: dormir

Play

: jugar, tocar un instrumento musical.

Study

: estudiar.

Work

: trabajar.

Run

: correr.

Eat

: comer.

1.1. AFIRMACIONES
Ahora vemos que para formar una frase en presente continuo necesitamos usar el verbo
To Be ms otro verbo (como alguno del recuadro anterior) y a este le agregaremos ING
en la terminacin. Cuando agregamos ING a los dems verbos que No son el verbo To
Be, ocurre lo siguiente:
-SINGING

: cantando.

-SLEEPING

: durmiendo.

-WORKING

: trabajando.

De esta manera cuando a un verbo en infinitivo como work (trabajar) le agregamos ING,
transformamos el significado de este, como resultado tenemos que working = trabajando.

I am yo estoy
I am working Yo estoy trabajando
She is Ella esta
She is singing Ella est cantando
Pedro is sleeping Pedro est durmiendo

1.2. INTERROGACIONES
Para hacer preguntas se emplea el mismo mecanismo del verbo to be, usamos el verbo
To Be antes del sujeto.
Am I working? Estoy yo trabajando?
Is she singing? Est ella cantando?
Is Pedro sleeping Esta Pedro durmiendo?

1.3. NEGACIONES
Para crear negaciones usamos la misma estructura de la negacin con To Be.
I am not working Yo no estoy trabajando
She is not singing Ella no est trabajando
Pedro is not sleeping Pedro no est durmiendo
Tambin podemos crear preguntas con Wh, tales como:
Where is she working? Dnde est Pedro trabajando?
Why is Pedro sleeping? Por qu esta Pedro durmiendo?

Pon atencin, tambin puedes usar la forma abreviada, por ejemplo:

Im working Estoy trabajando.
Whos sleeping? Quin esta durmiendo?
Shes not singing Ella no esta cantando

Como se muestra en el ejemplo hay dos respuestas correctas

la forma extendida o la forma abreviada, tu puedes usar
cualquiera de las dos.
