6. INSPECT TOE-IN
Measure toe-in w i t h a toe-in gauge in the following
procedure.
(a) Bounce the vehicle u p and d o w n t o stabilize the sus-
pension.
(b) M o v e the vehicle f o r w a r d about 5 m (16.4 f t ) w i t h
the front wheel in the straight-ahead position on a level
place.
-
Advance the Vehicle
(c) Make the center of each rear tread and measure the
distance b e t w e e n the right and l e f t tires.
(d) Advance the vehicle until the marks o n the rear sides
of t h e tires come t o measuring heights of the gauge
o n the front side.
HINT: If t h e tire rolls t o o far, repeat f r o m step (b)
A = Toe-in
7. ADJUST TOE-IN
(a) Remove t h e boot clips.
(b) Loosen t h e tie rod end lock nuts.
FRONT AXLE AND SUSPENSION - Front Wheel Alignment FA-7
(c) Turn the left and right tie rod ends an equal amount
t o adjust the toe-in.
Adjustment standard: 0 + 1 mm ( 0 + 0 . 0 4 in.)
HINT: Insure that the lengths of the left and right tie rods
are the same.
Tie rod end length left-right error:
Less than 1 . 5 mm ( 0 . 0 5 9 in.)

INSPECTION OF BALL JOINT
1. INSPECT LOWER BALL JOINT EXCESSIVE LOOSENESS
(a) Jack u p t h e front of the vehicle and support i t w i t h
stands.
( b ) Make sure t h e front wheels are in a straight-ahead
position, and depress the brake pedal.
( c ) Jack u p the lower suspension arm until there is about
half a load o n the front coil spring.
( d l M o v e the lower suspension arm u p and d o w n and
check that the ball joint has n o excessive play.
Maximum lower ball joint vertical play: 0 . 3 mm (0.012 in.)
2. INSPECT UPPER BALL JOINT EXCESSIVE LOOSENESS
Remove the front wheels and m o v e t h e upper suspension
arm u p and d o w n and check t h e ball joint has n o exces-
sive play.
Maximum upper ball joint vertical play: 0 m m (0 in.)

I MEASURE VOLTAGE OR RESISTANCE OF SYSTEM
Using a volt/ohmmeter with high impedance (10 kRi V mini-
mum), measure the voltage or resistance at each terminal
of the wiring connector.
NOTICE: To prevent damage to the computer, be care-
ful of the volt/ohmmeter range and do not connect it in
reverse.
