What is Biometric ID?

Biometric means measurement of the body

Biometric Identification is the process of using technology to measure physical aspects of an individual, transforming this
information into digital code for the purpose of computer aided identification of an individual.

Biometrics is used to establish a perfect

connection between the body and personal data
associated with an individual.

FACIAL RECOGNITION TECHNOLOGY

Facial recognition technology uses high resolution
digital cameras capture, map, and digitize facial features
creating biometric template of the face. This enables faces to
be searched and matched with an identity.

Remote Biometric Identification

According to FBI, biometric data, specifically facial

biometrics, is useful for data mining and predictive
analytics to identify and classify people, assign
individuals with a threat level, and even identify their
intent prior to any actions.

Facial Recognition relies on a database of previously captured

and identified facial biometrics (such as state DMVs) to
accomplish at-a-distance identification and tracking
through networked CCTV camera systems or handheld
biometric devices.
This is what Laura Donahue, Professor of Law at Georgetown
University has termed Remote Biometric Identification or RBI.
RBI allows the government to ascertain the identity (1) of multiple
people; (2) at a distance; (3) in public space; (4) absent notice and
consent; and (5) in a continuous and on-going manner.
Donahue emphasizes that RBI represents something
different in kind, not degree, from what has come before

Warrantless mass surveillance

[Facial recognition technology]Paired with video, this technology
allows governments to observe and record actions in public space
and to recall this information for any number of reasons. Such
remote tracking is not the equivalent of placing a tail on a suspect.
It requires no suspicion of any individual; it functions as
warrantless mass surveillance. It is inexpensive. It has perfect
recall. And it generates terabytes of new knowledge.
