Problems at Site

The project of repairing the damaged retaining wall at Jalan Tebing 8/8 seksyen 8,
Shah Alam Project start on 28th of July, 2015 and expected to finish on 20 th October, 2015.
Generally, not every construction process works smoothly. Through this project, there are
several problems that occurs during the construction of the retaining wall. This problems
caused the delay on the project. There are several ways or solutions to overcome this
problems.
The first problem is climate factor. Malaysia is a tropical country which the climate
condition is wet and dry throughout the year. But sometimes there unexpected weather
happen such as heavy rain. This kind of weather cause the problems toward the construction
of retaining wall. The excess amount of water caused the soil structure becomes loose and
cause the rigid soil to become wet soil which eventually called as mud. The mud causes
lorries that carry materials to be stuck in it. Lorries that are full with loads, cause more
pressure on the soil. This pressure causes the tyre of the lorry to stuck in the mud. Not many
lorries can enter the construction site and this causes the progress of the construction turn out
to be slow because some materials needed in the construction work cannot be transferred to
the site immediately according to the schedule.
Next problem is the design in the drawing and at the site is different. For
construction work, they need to construct based on the design but the result from the
construction shows different design from the drawing. This can cause an opposition from the
authority.
Moreover, the other problem is the increase in price of raw materials. This problems
cause difficulties for the contractors. They are given certain budget for this construction but
when there is increase in price of materials, they have to discuss with the owner to overcome
this problem which is related to the budget. The contractor need to think of the other effective
way in order to make sure that the project is work within the budget. Raw materials are
important for physical works.
For every problem there must be a way to overcome it in construction process. For the
first problem is the climate factor. As we know, we cannot fight against force of nature. To
overcome this problem, during the unexpected weather the contractor and the worker have to
improved their productivity which means that they need to work overtime and effectively in
order to make sure the project can complete within the time.
For the next problem, the engineer and the architect need to sit together and discuss
about the design. Mistake that occur during the designing process can affect the construction
work. Proper design with detail information needs to be clearly stated in order to satisfy the
clients requirements. They overcome this problem by discussing this matter together and
make effective correction regarding to the design.
In a nutshell, this project which is repairing the damaged retaining wall project is also
having some matters or problems related to the construction works which cause delay to the
project. Effective ways and corrective actions are taken to overcome all these problems to
ensure that the project is works within the budget and time plus to fulfil the clients
requirement.
