Learn Swedish if you would like to get a job here!


Swedish language courses 1001 Introductory Swedish I and 1002
Introductory Swedish II. Register on the SSE Portal.
Other language courses Fall 2015, SSE offers courses in English (108 and
109) and French (111 and 113).

STUDY PLACES AROUND

At SSE (Atriet when there is no event, balconies, library, Book


Tower)

Studentpalatset (the Student Palace). There are more than 500


places for studies and several rooms for group assignments. This is
also where you will find the Student Health Centre. Studentpalatset
is situated at Norrtullsgatan 2, close to the school.

& ACCESS CARDS

You can obtain your Swedish student card, Mecenat (www.mecenat.se) in the
beginning of the semester. Visit the Student Association reception in the
basement to do that.

SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER


(PERSONNUMMER)

You apply at your local tax office. Bring your passport and a letter
of enrollment, comprehensive health insurance valid for a year in
Sweden, self-signed assurance that you have sufficient funds for
your support for the duration of your studies.

You have to have an address where you can receive mail.

When your application is approved, you will be given a national


registration number (personal number). Personal numbers consist
of ten figures: year, month and day of birth, plus four extra digits,
e.g. 840820-XXXX

LETTER OF ENROLLMENT
Here is how you get it via SSE Portal:
1. Log in to the portal.hhs.se
2. Go to Student Support
3. Go to Transcript/Letter of Enrollment
4. Follow the instructions. Order it as .pdf that you download or a
printed version that you pick up at the floor 5.

Useful! No need to carry around your passport.

your belongings.

HEALTH

Students staying more than one year, with a Swedish personal


number, are entitled to use public medical services on the same
basis as Swedish citizens (e.g. 200 sek for generalist, 400 sek for
emergency visit, max 1100 sek/ 12 months)

EMERGENCY

Emergency care - if you suddenly become seriously ill or injured go to the emergency clinic (akutmottagningen).
E.g.: City Akuten; Apelbergsgatan 48, (close to Htorget) offers
specialized medical care in various areas without an appointment.
Please note that you have to bring ID.

Dental care is not included you pay yourself for all the treatment,
it is rather expensive

PHARMACY APOTEKET

The pharmacy is in Swedish called Apoteket. The closest


pharmacies to the school are on Sveavgen 43
There is one pharmacy open 24/7 situated on Klarabergsgatan 64,
close to the Central Station.
At the pharmacy you can also ask for advice.
You can buy certain non-prescription drugs at the grocery stores.
The majority of medications require prescription

POST OFFICE

Does not exist as such normally there is a department in bigger


grocery stores
Pick up or send parcels - local supermarket / petrol stations
depending on the residence address. You will receive a notification
paper with the address where you can pick up your parcel.
Pay bills internet bank/exchange office/bank
Buy stamps - Pressbyrn, supermarkets etc.

TRANSPORTATION

The transportation network (SL) provides bus, underground and


commuter train services. There is a student travel card with a
discount, valid for the whole semester.
Reduced fare for university students Price: 560 SEK (30 days),
1540 SEK (90 days)
You cannot buy your ticket on the bus, need to buy it in advance in
a kiosk. SMS tickets can be ordered from your cell phone at a
lower price if you have registered beforehand.
Smartphone app: RES I STHLM
You need to present your student card if you are stopped by the SL
controllers.

GROCERIES

There are several grocery stores/supermarkets situated close to


SSE. Some of them are more expensive than others.

Hemkp (in the basement of the mall hlns at Drottninggatan)
COOP/Daglivs Vi (underground Fridhemsplan)
Wasahallen Vi (Upplandsgatan 28-32, close to SSE)

LIQUOR STORE (SYSTEMBOLAGET)

Sweden has a government alcohol monopoly Systembolaget,


that sells beverages stronger than 3,5%.
Minimum 20 years old to purchase at Systembolaget
Be prepared to show your ID if you look young

SPORT FACILITIES

The SSE Student Association arranges several different sport


activities that you are welcome to join. The Sports Committee will
tell you more about this.
There are several fitness centers close to SSE that offer a discount
for students. Below you will find some suggestions:
Friskis och Svettis, located next to the school (Sveavgen 63)

SATS - Sports Club, you will find it all over town but the closest one
is at Odengatan 65 or at Sveavgen 20.
SSIF (Stockholm Studenters IF) is a sports association for students
in Stockholm (with priority to students of SU). You will find more
