TEST RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

This experiment was designed to determine the specific gravity of

cement by using the Le Chateliers Flask. It is a test that manifests the
resistance of Portland cement against deformation caused by temperature
change. It is required to do this test in two cement samples.
The specific gravity could be determined by the ratio of the density of
the substance to the density of water. The specific gravity of a Portland
cement should be around 3.15. In the experiment proper, the group used a
new laboratory equipment known as Le Chateliers Flask. Now, with the aid
of the instrument specific gravity may be known and also kerosene is used in
the experiment rather than water due to it binds with cement. Also, the
group used the water bath to maintain the temperature of the process in
order to finish the experiment.
The weight of the sample used was (insert value here). The initial and
final reading of water were (insert values here), respectively. Thus, the
specific gravity on the first trial is (insert value here)
In the end, this test also gives us information on the specific gravity of
the cement which is necessary for concrete mixture proportioning
calculations.

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATON

The group was able to determine the specific gravity of cement by
using the Le Chateliers flask, which leads to the achievement of the
objective of this experiment. Specifically, the specific gravity of this cement
is around 3.15.
It is important to know the specific gravity of the cement to be used in
a construction. A reason is that the specific gravity is used in the phase
relationship of air, water, and solids in a given volume of the soil. Certain
cements have been found to have higher or lower specific gravity than the
usual. This will cause serious difficulties for the durability of structures when
such cement is used.
Every experiment done was subjected to error, so was this. There were
several possible errors that may held responsible in this experiment such as:
Human error is inevitable to occur in here that is why some sample may have

one of the factors to fail the soundness of cement. In addition, outside

factors such as temperature and humidity could contribute to the outcome of
the mixture.
Here are some recommendations to make for the next experimenters,
and for the experiment, itself. For the next experimenters, as much as
possible, while pouring the cement in the Le Chateliers Flask, much care
should be taken to avoid splashing and cement should not adhere to the
inside of the flask above the liquid.
