TERRORISM AN INHUMANE PHENOMENON

Terrorism: a means of creating maximum disaster and damage with minimum inputs and efforts.
All countries are suffering through terrorism at the moment but India being the biggest
democratic country is suffering from this inhuman activity which has resulted into a big threat
for all Indians. India as a country always believed that they can fight cross border terrorism and
the country is capable of doing so with one of the biggest armed force in the world.
It all started when India got freedom from British Empire who ruled the country for almost 2
centuries. During this time, there was one more thing people saw and that was due to breaking
the country into few pieces (SEPERATION). One Country was divided into three parts; India,
Pakistan and Bangladesh. India being the biggest and wealthiest part supported Pakistan and
Bangladesh with all the required help in terms of money, food, medicines and everything
expected. At the same time, many Muslim families left India and went to Pakistan as they felt its
their country and they have a good future there being a Muslim Country. Violence started during
the same period and tremendous riots took place between Muslim and Sikh community.
Everyone expected that this situation will come to an end once both the countries are separate

That happened too, but there was one more thing which occurred during separation and that was
KASHMIR SAMJHAUTA. Dont know exactly what happened there but it ended in India
having control and power on Kashmir. Kashmir was declared one of the Indian states and entire
responsibility of Kashmir was with India as a country. This was the time when terrorism took
face of cold wars in Kashmir. India faced tremendous cross border terrorism and answered that
properly. A war took place between India and Pakistan and in the same war Pakistan occupied a
tiny part of Kashmir. War was not the end; it was just a bigger picture of the cold wars going on
continuously across the border. Forces from Pakistan always tried to get hold of some more part
of Kashmir but they met failure. This is all about the past and the situation is far better now.
People in J&K started to see unknown people doing criminal activities and killing innocent
residents in the area, they were called TERRORISTS.
In the beginning Terrorists were found only in J&K and some more Northern parts of the
country. They were killing innocent people there and Indian Military was fighting with the
terrorists and trying to control such activities of inhuman results as no one likes this in the
civilized world as it is today. Terrorists did consistent attacks on Indian forces and lot of Indian
security officers gave their lives to see the country safe and secure. Their efforts resulted into
somewhat safer India for some days and than again new terrorists took birth and started doing the
same things as done by their ancestor terrorists. One must wonder where these terrorists borne
and how come they take birth so rapidly and that too in multiple quantities. One must wonder to
see them using high end technical weapons and specialized explosives to carry out their activities
in India. One should look around for such a fantastic training school and suppliers who provide
them such resources and training to use these weapons. These terrorists are expert in wars taking
place in hills and forests; they seem to be properly trained people who call themselves JIHADIs.

The weapons are used by security forces in various countries but these terrorists always have
access to these technically well advanced equipments and weapons. Are they a security force for
someone???

One of the biggest question in my mind at least. Is there any organization in world or for that
matter India who can inform the countrys security agencies about the movements and plans of
terrorists? Answer is NO. India has one of the best Intelligence agencies in the world. In spite of
that the country is suffering from terrorism from more than 60 years now. Even today, residents
at J&K are living under threat of their lives. They always have a fear from terrorists and not sure
from where fire will come.
As mentioned earlier these were the roots of terrorism and it took a new face after this. Cross
border terrorism never reduced and one more feature was added to this pathetic activity called
Urban Terrorism. Urban terrorism means such pathetic & rubbish killing and violence in urban
parts of India. New targets for terrorists were the developed and Class A cities in the country.
They targeted these cities with full resources and intelligence. Again, where are that training
school and who those people who train these people are?
World saw a very different face of terrorism in this new type of terrorism. Lot of efforts and
intelligence was involved for these activities as they were now targeting highly civilized and
sophisticated parts of the country. Developed and cities with a fantastic infrastructure and
facilities. Cities which created many big names and gave birth to many big corporations of the
world. Here the target was not Security forces or Govt. officials; here the target was common

March 12, 1993 - A series of bomb blasts, planted by Muslim underworld figures, rock the
country's commercial capital of Bombay, killing some 260 people and injuring 713. (terrorism,

railway station. The bomb was planted in the airconditioner duct. It was suspected to be a crude

January 27, 2003 - At least 30 people were injured when a bomb planted on a bicycle went off
throwing splinters of sharp nails outside Vile Parle railway station in Mumbai. Members of SIMI
were found to be behind the attack.

March 13, 2003 - A powerful bomb blast shattered a bogie of a local train at Mulund railway
station in Mumbai during peak hours killing 11 people and injuring more than 65. This was the
most powerful serial explosion.

August 23, 2003 - Two bombings at the Gateway of India and the Mumba Devi temple in
Mumbai killed 52, injured 167. Terrorists from Lashkar-e-Taiba and the Students Islamic
Movement of India were found to be behind the attacks.

July 28, 2003 - Bus blast kills 3 and injures 31 others in Mumbai. Pakistani intelligence agency:
ISI and members of the Students Islamic Movement of India were found to be behind the blast.

July 5, 2005 - Five Bangladeshi terrorists, trained by the Jaish-e-Mohammad, attacked the Ram
Janmabhumi in Ayodhya, all 5 killed, 1 civilian died.

October 29, 2005 - 67 people were killed and 224 injured in serial bombings in major Delhi
markets on Diwali eve. A Pakistani group, Islamic Inquilab Mahaz, claimed responsibility for the
attack. The group is linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba.

March 7, 2006 - At least 20 persons were killed and over 101 injured when two blasts rocked
Varanasi. The first blast took place at the Sankat Mochan Hanuman temple, the second at the
Varanasi railway station. Terrorists from Lashkar-e-Taiba were found to be behind the attack.

June 1, 2006 - Three heavily armed terrorists were killed in an encounter with the police when
they tried to drive through the security cordon guarding the RSS headquarters in Nagpur. Two
policemen were injured in the encounter.

July 11, 2006 - Seven explosions ripped through crowded commuter trains and stations in
Mumbai, killing at least 200 people and leaving 700 more bloodied and injured. Lashkar-e-Taiba
and local Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) activists were found to be behind the
attacks.

WHAT ARE WE DOING AS A COUNTRY TO FIGHT SUCH ATTACKS ???

ARE WE SAFE IN OUR OWN COUNTRY ???
HOW CAN WE FIGHT TERRORISM IN INDIA ???
WHAT WE CAN DO AS AN INDIA CITIZEN ???

THERE ARE MANY QUESTIONS IN THE MIND OF EACH AND EVERY INDIAN.
WHO WILL ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS ???
