CURRICULAR STATEMENT
Understanding the peculiarity of similar triangles.

CONTENT ANALYSIS
Term: Similar triangles.
Fact : Angles of similar triangles are equal.
: The sides opposite to the equal angles are in
Proportion.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
The students will be able to,
:recall the information about triangles
:describe the peculiarity of triangles
:understanding the concept of similar triangles
:explain the concept of similar triangles
:use the above idea in another familiar situation
:accept the beauty of geometric figures

PRE-REQUISITES
Pupils knows about triangles ,sides and angles
TEACHING-LEARNING RESOURCES
Activity cards related to the concept

Classroom interaction procedure

Expected pupil response

Introduction
Teacher starts the class by singing a poem:
We are in different shapes
We are in different angles
We are in 3 sided
We are in 4 sided and more
We have sides
We have angles
Can you tell our name?

Geometrical shapes.

Presentation
Teacher divided students in to groups and
present a riddle. Then ask them to answer it.
I am a geometrical figure
I have sides and angles
The number of sides and angles are equal to
the number of wheels of auto rickshaw.
My sides can be changed but
My angles are always 180
Can you tell my name?
Activity (1)
Giving activity cards and ask them to answer it.

Triangle

Classroom interaction procedure.

Name the triangles and complete the table
below.
Triangles
Angles

Through discussions and explanations, with the

help of the teacher students found out that
the triangles with equal angles are equal.
Activity (2)
Again giving activity cards to do it.

Expected pupil response

Students found it.

1 Draw triangles with angles 40, 60an 80?

2 Name the triangles?

3 Measure the angles of the triangle?

Then through discussions and explanations ,

with the help of the teacher students found
out that if the angles of a triangle are equal to
the angles of another triangle then the two
triangles are similar and the sides opposite to
the equal angles are in proportion. Then show
a chart:
SIMILAR TRIANGLES
IF THE ANGLES OF A TRIANGLE ARE EQUAL TO THE
ANGLES OF ANOTHER TRIANGLE THEN THE TWO
TRIANGLES ARE EQUAL AND THE SIDES OPPOSITE
TO THE EQUAL ANGLES ARE IN PROPORTION.

Then sing a poem :

At last he comes near to me
We are the friends in mathematics
We are of equal mind
But are of different sides
As our mind our angles are equal
Our fathers call us as

Application / review:
Giving activity cards and asks them to answer
it.
Find out the similar triangles given below
and name it.

Students found it.

FOLLOW UP ACTIVITY

1. Make similar triangles using eerrkkiles?

2. If

ABC and
