he world demand for

hydrocarbons is constantly
growing. The oil and gas
industry is facing a key challenge:
discover new reservoirs and better
understand the architecture
of existing reservoirs in order
to optimize their development.
Two professions are vital to this
challenge: geologists and
geophysicists. The IFP School
Petroleum Geosciences program
was designed with this in mind.
Students are trained in new
concepts, new technologies and new
tools in geology and geophysics, at
the level of both sedimentary basins
and reservoirs.

Our academic approach focuses on

shaping professionals. You will learn
your job from world-class speakers
from industry and applied research.
You will be able to implement
cutting-edge technologies
(acquisition and processing of
seismic and well data, sedimentary
basin evaluation, reservoir modeling

and characterization, etc.) and

the methodologies needed to make
decisions for exploration. All these
skills can also be applied to
underground storage (gas or CO2),
geothermics or civil engineering.
Our course content changes as
innovations occur in industry. For
this purpose, we provide you with
all the necessary tools: case studies
based on real data provided by
industry, use of industrial software,
and the organization of numerous
field trips in geology and geophysics.
The two program majors (geology
and geophysics) are organized in
parallel, but many courses are
common to the two, allowing
students to obtain an understanding
of the other field. In addition to the
constant use of English (the
language our classes are taught in),
you will conduct work and projects
with students from many different
origins and cultures (2/3 of our
students are foreign and come from
many countries throughout the
world). This also helps to prepare
you for industries that are by nature
international.
On completion of your program, you
will have numerous opportunities for
an international career, either in
national or international oil and gas
companies, or with service providers
(oil and gas supply service sectors).

are almost all sponsored by
companies (through sponsorships,
apprenticeships, or study leave) that
finance their living expenses during
the academic period and contribute
towards their tuition.

PROGRAM SCHEDULE

The two examples of schedules

shown below correspond to the most
frequently encountered cases for
students in this program: 16-month
continuous program for students
with a 4- or 5-year engineering
degree, and alternating school /
company 19-month program for
students with a 5-year engineering
degree.

There are other possible cases as

well:
11-month continuous program for
students with a 5-year engineering
degree who have already done
work in a company for at least
4 months that is validated by
IFP School at admission;
