COURSE SYLLABUS
COURSE TITLE: ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE
Course Description:
This course is designed to prepare the needs of the students in all disciplines
and acquired the basic knowledge and principles relating to general concepts
of Ecology, Natural Resources, Biodiversity, and Pollution: its sources, effects
and mitigations. Knowledge on the basic principles of Environmental Science,
such the relationship between things and their environment, food chain and
food web, energy and nutrient cycle, effects of the increase and decrease of
population to the community, significance of biodiversity, impact of pollution
to the environment, human role in the ecosystem, maintenance of organisms
and habitats etc., any individuals, as member of the public, make a sound
and valid judgment on environmental issues affecting human possible, thus
provide scientific approaches in solving problems.
Course objectives:
At the end of the semester students should able:
Indicate the origin and development of ecology
Discuss the relationships of ecology to other branches of sciences
Discuss the importance of environment to science
Discover the role of energy in the ecosystem
Define competition and distinguish between interrelationships of each
types
State the present condition of Philippine wildlife
Formulate solutions to the serious environmental problems we are
facing now
