Introduction: This is a proposed flight test plan to be presented at the time of the initial
airworthiness certification inspection for a specific Rand Robinson KR2, N64KR, authored by Dan Heath,
the test pilot and builder. It is intended for a complete evaluation of this aircraft only. It is based on
recommendations made in the Homebuilt Advisory Circulars available from the FAA, and will in its final
revision include recommendations, and requirements from the inspector after his inspection. It is a (6) six
phase 45 hour test program covering testing and evaluation of every phase of flight anticipated.
However, Phase 1 will take as long as it takes to insure that the pilot and aircraft are ready flight.
Phase 1:
5 hours
Phase 2:
2 hours
Phase 3:
8 hours
Phase 4:
10 hours
Phase 5:
10 hours
Phase 6:
10 hours
2 one hour flights in closed pattern to exercise the engine and aircraft to
determine initial reliability while remaining close to the runway.
This phase comprises testing for overall aircraft stability in all phases of flight. The
purpose is to determine to prove safety in all weights and loading arrangements.
The aircraft will first be tested using only solo weight and minimum safe fuel to test for the
most forward CG that can be tested with this test pilot. Then it be tested by adding
weights in varying increments untill the maximum weight and the most aft allowable CG
condition has been reached.
This phase will test the aircraft in flight control failure circumstances, and establish the best
glide speed. It will be used to develop emergency procedures appropriate for this aircraft.
Simulated engine failures near the airport with complete power off (simulated) landings will be
accomplished to prove emergency glide speeds and further refine emergency procedures.
