Buzy Beez Child Care Center Philosophy

Here at Buzy Beez Child Care Center, we believe that it is our duty to provide children with a
safe and positive learning environment where they can learn from our examples of respect,
politeness, patience, honesty, good manners, and much more. We provide your children with
developmentally appropriate activities that will aid them in their growth now as well as in the
future. At Buzy Beez, creative play is an important part of our daily curriculum.
While planning our curriculum, we include as much concrete evidence as possible. Not only
does this help maintain your childs attention, but it also encourages them to participate.
One of our beliefs comes from child development theorist Jean Piaget: children learn through
exploration of their everyday environment. This includes various activities and projects as well
as being a model of good behavior. We understand that each child develops in his or her own
unique way, which is why we encourage our children through positive reinforcement, kindness,
and respect for being an individual.

Toddler Program
Children between the ages of 12 months and 36 months are defined as toddlers. Some of the
goals we strive to achieve through our toddler program include self-feeding, dressing and
undressing, washing your own hands, and early speech.
For children who are practicing potty training, we ask that they come dressed in clothing that is
easy to take and put back on. This will encourage them to strive to reach their goals.
Another goal for those in the toddler program is sharing. This aids in the growth of awareness
for his or her surroundingsof others as well as their environment. We strive to guide and
reassure each individual toddler in his or her own discovery.

Preschool Program
The goal of our preschool program is to foster each childs desire to explore and succeed.
Children mature at their own individual paces, often concentrating on one area at a time. We
believe it is our purpose to guide each child at his or her own level of performance by providing
a safe, orderly, and stimulating environment that is geared toward their physical, social,
emotional, and intellectual development. Above all, we want your child to develop a sense of
confidence that will serve him or her as they progress toward a more directive and structured
environment.
We design each room to focus on various activity centers, which your children are free to
explore and choose their own areas of interest. Centers include blocks, housekeeping, arts
and crafts, games, puzzles, science, math, writing, and reading. There is also a
designated Circle Time area where we teach weather, days of the week, numbers, alphabet,
songs, colors, shapes, and much more.

Projects at Buzy Beez Child Care Center are intended to encourage children to explore new
materials and principles of our world. The games we provide are specifically designed to
develop learning skills that prepare children to succeed in their future academics. Various skills
we practice include memory, discrimination, patterning, problem solving, language, and
listening.

Before and After School Program

Our before and after school program includes help with homework, art and craft projects,
indoor free play, outdoor play, games, field trips, and more. We offer care on early release
days, all-day teacher workshops, school vacations, snow days, and summer break. However,
in case of severe weather, please check the Buzy Beez Child Care Center website
www.BuzyBeezNH.com to ensure our center is open for services.

Health Program
When your child becomes a member of a larger community than your family, he or she is more
susceptible to illness. Consequently, for the protection of both your child as well as others at
Buzy Beez Child Care Center, it is necessary for us to insist upon the following:
1. Yearly Physical Examination: We prefer to have the results of your childs physical
examination on file upon his or her first day at our center. However, we are required
by state licensing regulations to have a copy of your childs immunization record
before they can stay with us. The physical must have taken place within the last six
months of the childs start date with us and must be on file within 30 days.
2. Exclusion Due to Illness: If your child shows signs of illness in the morning, please keep
him or her home. If your child shows signs of illness at our center, you will be called
and asked to come take him or her home. Not only are we concerned with your childs
comfort, but also we are concerned with spreading illness to other children and staff.
We are aware that many times a sick child will not act sick when you take them home,
which is why we make every effort to be sure this step is necessary. We also
recommend that you have back-up care in case of an emergency such as this.

Signs of Illness Specified in Licensing

The staff at Buzy Beez Child Care Center shall observe each child on a daily basis upon arrival
as well as throughout the course of the day for injuries and symptoms of illness, which:
1. Impair or prohibit the childs participation in the regular child care setting, or
2. Require more care than a staff member can provide without compromising the
health and safety of the ill or injured child or the other children.
The symptoms of illness referenced above include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. More than one episode of vomiting in one day,

2. More than one episode of diarrhea in one day,
3. Uncontrolled coughing or wheezing,
4. Unusual or extreme fatigue or lethargy,
5. Skin lesions that have not been diagnosed or treated by a licensed health care
practitioner, or
6. An under-arm temperature of 100F or higher combined with any of the following:
a) Diarrhea,
b) Rash,
c) Earache,
d) Sore throat, or
e) Vomiting.
Buzy Beez Child Care Center will also exclude any child with evidence of head lice.
Emergency Treatment
The emergency policy at Buzy Beez Child Care Center requires each childs parent to
sign a medical release form. This permits us to have and administer emergency
medical treatments immediately. In case of an emergency, we will contact the rescue
squad dispatched with the Barnstead Fire Department, and then their
recommendation will be followed.
Administration of Medication
In order to protect both your child as well as the staff at Buzy Beez Child Care Center,
we require to have on file a doctors written authorization to administer any and
all medication both prescription and non-prescription. All medication must be
clearly labeled and in its original container as well as left with the staff member in
charge of the child upon arrival.
Whenever your child encounters an issue at Buzy Beez Child Care Center, you will receive a
written report describing any accident, illness, or incident along with any treatment provided.
We adhere to this procedure to avoid any possibility of a parent or guardian not being informed
of a particular incident due to staff shift changes. These reports are duplicated and one must
be signed by the parent or guardian and left at the center.

Clothing
Children should wear sturdy, washable clothing suitable for frequent outdoor play. All
clothing should be clearly marked with your childs initials or name. Clothing should also be
easy to put on as well as remove. We request that a spare set of pants, a shirt, underwear,
and socks be left at the center in your childs cubby in case of an accident.

Outdoor play is considered a fundamental part of our daily routine. We are conscious of the
comfort of each child and require him or her to come to the center equipped with appropriate
clothing for that days weather. This often means leaving an extra sweatshirt or pair of shorts.
Winter weather gear parents should bring for each child include a winter jacket, ski pants, hat,
mittens, and boots. Please pack an extra pair of mittens. Scarves are not required as they are
unsafe for children to wear on the playground.

Toys and Equipment

To avoid loss, damages, or arguments, please have your children leave their toys at home.
Buzy Beez Child Care Center has more than enough age appropriate toys to entertain your
children all day.
However, for our daily rest time, your child should bring with them a blanket and small pillow.
He or she may also bring in a small stuffed animal.

Discipline Policy
We understand that group care environments are often difficult for children to cope with
negotiating. It is our responsibility at Buzy Beez Child Care Center to teach each child the
appropriate skills so he or she can achieve success. The form of disciple we follow at Buzy
Beez consists of redirection as well as model problem solving in order to resolve conflicts
in the event a child is having a difficult time.
Never, under any circumstance, do we use physical or emotional punishment with any child.
In the event that a childs behavior poses a safety risk to other children, a Buzy Beez staff
member will call the parent of the former child to schedule a behavior plan meeting. We
consider any behavior that harms peers a safety risk and each instance will be documented so
that both parent and staff can understand the childs behavior and know how to address the
resolution. A copy of each report will be given to the childs parent as well as a copy kept on
file at the center.
Please do not hesitate to address any questions or concerns to any staff member employed by
Buzy Beez Child Care Center. We are here to work together to ensure your childs success.

Family Involvement
Buzy Beez Child Care Center welcomes and encourages the family members of all children
staying at our center to become active participants in our programs. We invite adult family
members to volunteer their time in assisting teachers with special projects, story time, and
recess. We welcome both adult and child family members to attend special events, such as
holiday parties and birthday celebrations.
