forhighskew.
Voidedslabandbeamandslabbridgesareusedforlarger,singleormultispanbridges.Incircular
voideddeckstheratioof[depthofvoid]/[depthofslab]shouldbelessthan0.79andthemaximum
areaofvoidshouldbelessthan49%ofthedecksectionalarea.
AnalysisofDeck
Fordeckswithskewlessthan25asimpleunitstripmethodofanalysisisgenerallysatisfactory.For
skewsgreaterthan25thenagrillageorfiniteelementmethodofanalysiswillberequired.Skew
decksdeveloptwistingmomentsintheslabwhichbecomemoresignificantwithhigherskewangles.
ComputeranalysiswillproducevaluesforMx,MyandMxywhereMxyrepresentsthetwisting
momentintheslab.Duetotheinfluenceofthistwistingmoment,themosteconomicalwayof
reinforcingtheslabwouldbetoplacethereinforcingsteelinthedirectionoftheprincipalmoments.
Howeverthesedirectionsvaryovertheslabandtwodirectionshavetobechoseninwhichthe
reinforcingbarsshouldlie.WoodandArmerhavedevelopedequationsforthemomentofresistance
tobeprovidedintwopredetermineddirectionsinordertoresisttheappliedmomentsMx,Myand
Mxy.
