Abstract
The purpose of the project was to design a program, identify potential
funding sources, and supportive program for society who care for autistic
youth. The services would be offered at Muslim Autism Association
Malaysia a non-profit agency serving the (Autism Malaysia) communities in
Malaysia. The awareness supportive programme will be design to provide
educational workshop for society and caregivers who provide care for
Autism Malaysia Department of Children and Family Services autistic
chldren. Therefore, research supports the high need for autistic awareness
support services for society and caregivers who care for the autistic youth.
2.1 Introduction to the issues
2.1.1 What is the meaning behind the issue?
Literature review is defines as a summary of the research for the
journal that was been do research. It is important to knowledge society
about autism. Nowadays, there lot of cases about autism. There are many
meaning behind of this issue. The effects of autism of the issue that will be
discuss.
Many people get extremely confused when people speak of autism,
and they think it is just a childhood disorder. The reason why people think
it is just a childhood disorder is because numerous studies focus primarily
on educating autistic children, since it is very hard to do so. Autism is a
biological

disorder

coming

from

the

brain

that

impairs

peoples

communication and their social skills. It covers an exceedingly broad

spectrum of disorders ranging from the very mild to severe.
Autistics are described to be living in their own world and the high
functioning autistics usually have two worlds; the outside world and
their world. Autism can be accompanied with having many serious
sensory challenges, such as lack of verbal communication, lack of eye
contact, and the inability to hear what others are saying (Harris, 1994).
2.1.2 What is the actual problem of the issue?
The actual problem of this issue is the lack of awareness in society that
acknowledge this problem was part of the brain diseases. Some people
tend to thought that this has to do with a mystical and superstitious belief.
In our culture, autism spectrum disorder is often thought of as a childhood
3

condition, with public attention focused primarily on children and the

importance of early detection and intervention.
However, autism is a lifelong condition, and the available, necessary
supports and treatments change as people on the spectrum move through
major life phases.
Like everyone else, people with autism move through significant life
changes. Their quality of life depends not only on the foundation provided
in childhood, but also on ongoing supports that are specific to their
educational, medical, social, recreational, family and employment needs.
In term of society the awareness of autism itself remains low in
Malaysia. Lack of understanding and knowledge causes public especially
parents with autism child to lock their children inside far from the
community view. Community tends to prejudice and sceptical towards the
autism child by stating them to be a threat to the community, in fact the
autism child pose no threat and what they really need was an ongoing
support and attention from the public and their family members.
Some of the common misunderstood in the case are that autism was
actually a black magic send to cause harm and injure the person, another
common belief in the modern way was, autism causes by genetic inherit.
It is proven by facts that autism are not a genetically inherited illness,
much of the community prejudice that if one married a family member of
the autism child they are likely to have their children to suffers an autism
as well.
The common prejudice often causes the family member of the autism child
to hide the fact that they have a family member suffering from the
problem. Whereby blaming it the causes by black magic for the liability.
Another stigma face by the autism was it can be widespread diseases,
an epidemic outbreak. Society tends to be afraid and cautious about a
disease that they did not know of, especially it involves diseases that can
alter oneself completely. In a country that lack information awareness
about autism this can cause a massive challenge for the family members
to gain support from the public community. The autism itself does not
widespread as it was not a contagious disease such as Influenza. An
awareness campaign is much and really needed to help society to
overcome the public stigma concern the autism sufferers as they do really

need our support to help them realize that they do not fight and suffer the
autism alone.
2.2 Objective of The Project
o To stimulate and public awareness and understanding of autism
o To promote community involvement and support for persons with
autism and their families.
o To identify, promote and encourage the treatment, education,
welfare and acceptance of persons with autism.
o To familiarize and advice the community of the special skills,
services as well as understanding necessary for the care and

management persons with autism.

Significant of the project
The significant of this project is to promote autism awareness,
inclusion and
self-determination for all and assure that each person with autism is
provided the opportunity to achieve the highest possible quality of
life. Other than that, this project also go beyond to simply promoting
autism awareness to encouraging families, society and collaborators
to

become

partners

in

movement

toward

acceptance

and

appreciation.
2.4

Limitation of the project

The limitation of this project is the potentially small gathered,
meaning that participant withdrawals can limit the validity of the
results as well as the possibility for generalisation. Other than that,
the limitation is due to time constraints also is one of the limitation.
The process to complete this project in less achieves the desired
level. Furthermore, lack of direct resources and indirect resources to
implement in order to complete this research.

2.5

Scope of The Project

For the purposes of this report, this study only covers Malaysia and
certain country such as United States.

2.6

Methodology

2.6..1

Research Method

The proposed research takes the form of a longitudinal study that will
compare

children

with

Autism

Spectrum

Disorders

developing

communication ability when given one of two forms. A longitudinal study

is an observational research method in which data is gathered for the
same subjects repeatedly over a period of time. Longitudinal research
projects can extend over years or even decades. In a longitudinal cohort
study, the same individuals are observed over the study period.
2.6.2 Research Approach
We will provide students iPads and forms. Specifically, one group of
children will use iPads and the other will use forms. This study will reveal
whether there is a cause to promote or discourage the use of one iPad
technology platform over another.
Participants will be 40 students, half male and half female, between
the ages of 5 and 8 years. Half of the participants will be from School A,
while the other half will be from School B. Each participant will have
Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), students will be familiar with some form
of non-digital.
A communication binder will be constructed that will contain pictures
of snack items, activities, and toys that the children will use to make
requests. The laminated color picture cards will be attached within the
communication binder. Similarly, an iPad will be loaded with digital
pictures of snack items, activities, and toys in order to support childrens
requests. In accruing how a child with ASD would respond, we would

simply ask them questions. With the results, we would compare them and
see how each individual differs.

Implication of The Project

Autism awareness project aims to increase society awareness about

people,

especially

children,

with

autism.

The

day

often

features

educational events for teachers, health care workers and parents. Besides
that, there will be many other events organized such as informational
7

events for parents of children with autism, conferences and workshops for
professionals working with people with autism, the display of posters and
banners to increase public awareness and artistic workshops for people
with autism. Moreover, special clinics are also organized for families
dealing with autism to obtain consultations with pediatricians, educational
psychologists and social workers
Through this project, people will come to appreciate all the preceding
educational approaches that had been taken in educating autistic
students. People also will realize that the difficulty that most children with
autism have an imitation is related to executive dysfunction. Imitation
skills that involve sequences of movements and symbolic movements
(such as pantomime) are often impacted. This has great implication for the
childs ability to learn about others intentions and mental states, speech,
language, and social skills. It also has implications for the childs ability to
learn complex fine motor skills such as writing. However, despite the
imitation impairment in children with autism, these children are often able
to learn to engage in imitation in highly structured contexts. People
working with children with ASD need to be passionate and motivated to
work in challenging conditions.
Teachers need to know their students need and adapt. Training of
teachers takes time and dedicated teachers are very much in demand.
Communication and imaginative play are areas of challenge for children
with autism. Learning to understand language, particularly language that
is non-literal is difficult. Some children with autism develop early and
extensive rote language systems. This can manifest as learning the
alphabet before being able to say ten words or learning clips from
videotapes that are recited in communicative or non-communicative
contexts. Teachers, practitioners and therapies who deal with autistic
children should have patience and dedication as it is not easy to involve
them in the teaching and learning process. As conclusion, the project will
be beneficial to all parties and it also can enlighten people about autism in
society.

2.9 Ethical
Ethics can be defined as the set of moral principles that guide a
person's behavior, (Defining Ethics, (n.d). It is serves as a direction
on how people should behave toward each other, understand and fulfill
-

their obligations to others.

Objectivity
Strive to avoid bias in experimental design, data analysis, data
interpretation, peer review, personnel decisions, grant writing, expert
testimony, and other aspects of research where objectivity is expected
or required. Avoid or minimize bias or self-deception. Disclose personal
or financial interests that may affect research.

Respect for Intellectual Property

Honor patents, copyrights, and other forms of intellectual property. Do

not use unpublished data, methods, or results without permission. Give
credit where credit is due. Give proper acknowledgement or credit for
all contributions to research. Never plagiarize.
-

Honesty
Strive for honesty in all scientific communications. Honestly report data,
results, methods and procedures, and publication status. Do not
fabricate, falsify, or misrepresent data. Do not deceive colleagues,
granting agencies, or the public.

Carefulness
Avoid careless errors and negligence; carefully and critically examine
own work and the work of the peers. Keep good records of research

activities, such as data collection, research design, and correspondence

with agencies or journals.
-

Legality
Know and obey relevant laws and institutional and governmental

policies.
2.10 Conclusion
Hence, a perception of a mental imbalance has developed after
some time. Sixty years back extreme introvertedness was simply an
unrecognized formative defer by and large lumped in with mental
impediment.
Today it is perceived as a free neurologically based issue of
criticalness, a noteworthy general wellbeing issue, and a subject of
much research. Specialists have attempted to discover a reason for the
issue without incredible achievement. Notwithstanding this trouble,
exploration proceeds in perpetually refined bearings.
Thus, various medications have been produced that help kids with
extreme introvertedness and PDD to augment their capability to learn
and turn out to be socially familiar, regardless of how impeded they
may be. In spite of the fact that no leaps forward seem liable to happen
at any point in the near future, there is reason for hope.
