RLWMFC 5-1 Brim United

Red Lion got back to winning ways this Sunday with a comprehensive, yet
lacklustre 5-1 victory over Brim United at the home of football.
With Lunny away trekking the Himalayas, fans favourite Foggy took the reins so
it was no surprise to see soon to be stepson Tim come back into the side. Skipper
Robley returned for the banned Leigh Brear and Rich Harold partnered him at
centre back as Jack moved to across to left back. Bushy, came in at right back for
James/Jordan (never sure which is which) and the 15th top goal scorer in the
Chesterfield Sunday League, Division 3, Olly Shelton, was given chance to play in
his favoured role through the middle.
It was never going to be a classic, both sides having to contend with Hurricane
Katrina throughout the 90 mins. It was Lion who started the brighter and were
rewarded with an early lead. Tim picked the ball up wide on the right, cut onto
his left, and with a blatant cross, the ball found its way into the bottom corner of
the net. Tim, who has only just finished the fruit gems from his last goal bonus,
was clearly delighted, as was gaffer Foggy who made a beeline for Mrs Garfoot
on the sidelines to celebrate the family achievement.
After Matt Chapman came off before he was sent off for his terrible tash, 1-0 was
soon doubled as some more horrific Brim United defending gave Cavey the
freedom of the area and he slotted the ball into the bottom corner with an
excellent finish. Least when he scores he talks about his goals and not some
overly complicated bet he's had. Olly 'the hotshot' Shelton then made it 3-0 after
finding more space in behind the Brim United defence and finishing well into the
bottom right corner. Olly's reputation as a goal scoring sensation is sending
ripples through the leagues and he shot straight off after the game as the
champagne was on ice for moving to 11th in the goal scoring charts. A proud day
for all the Shelton family.
From then on Lion really stepped off the gas and Brim United took over. However,
it seemed as though they had scouted their frontline from Ashgate Croft as
despite numerous chances they never really looked like scoring with some
'special' finishing. Lion's cause wasn't helped with Rob Kelly being offside every
time he went near the ball.
Half time came and went at 3-0 but there was no change in the flow of the game
as Lion coasted and Brim United were still totally inadequate in all aspects of the
game. However, in what is now a weekly occurrence, Lion gifted their opponents
a route back into the game. Skipper Robley, who has evidently been watching
too many Bayern games on the TV, instructed Ad Brear to play the ball out from
his goal kick, but of all people he instructed him to give it Gav Wiley. Known for
being calm on the ball, Gav looked up, got the ball out of his feet, and searched
out a pass. Whilst all this was happening the Brim United striker had already
nicked the ball off Gav and slotted it into the bottom corner. 3-1.

To try and liven things up Foggy rung the changes. Bushy, who is the latest
player to pick up a sore fanny, a problem that is sweeping through the Lion team
quicker than an STD in an inbred family, was replaced by James/Jordan and the
now partially sober Macca replaced Tim, Foggy pleased to get some family time
on the sidelines.
From here Lion picked up there game and managed to grab two more goals. Rob
Kelly made it 4-1, for once timing his run right and he found the bottom corner
with a cool finish. Following this Cavey got his second of the game as he
slammed home with his left foot to give the score line a perhaps undeserved
gloss. Lion, who would have taken any type of win after last week's debacle
against Renishaw will be pleased with the three points, but will need to play
much better in the coming weeks against tougher opponents.
It was a fitting send off for Jack Wilson, who played his last game before shoulder
surgery. Both Jack and Lunny are said to be relieved, Jack because he's about 3k
down in booking fines and Lunny because he's run out of excuses to ignore Jack's
texts demanding a transfer.
Lion travel to Brittania Rose next Sunday in the Derbyshire Cup still in pursuit of
a league and cup treble.
