The term 'alum' is applied to a group of hydrated double salts, which are charac
terized by easy solubility in water and a strong astringent taste. Common alum r
efers to potassium aluminum sulfate. It is also known as potash alum. Medicinall
y, it has styptic and astringent properties.
Alum is very useful in tooth pain.
To a glass of lukewarm water add a piece of alum the size of a seed of black chi
ckpeas. Stir to mix it completely.
Rinse the teeth with this water for relief from pain.
Amazing Benefits of Alum (phitkari)

Alum is a salt that contains potassium sulphate. It is mined and taken out at As
ia minor and South America. From the middle ages, this salt is used as a ''bite'
' for the dye fabrics. Thereafter, in the 17th century, it was used in making ha
lf-timbered houses along with milk and lime. And, now it is very vastly used in
the canning of Atlantic cod (dried fish) and to clean the muddy water. The suspe
nded water impurities get closed by alum precipitates. And thus, the water becom
es clean and ready for oral drinking. Other than this, since it has astringent,
antiseptic and antiperspirant values, so its use for curing many personal proble

Medicinal uses of Alum
Dental health- Alum root is used for keeping a good health of your teeth. And it
is, in fact, a very good substance for improving infections from your gums and
mouth. You can make the mouthwash by this method: Chop one alum root and transfe
r it in a bowl. Thereafter, fill it with warm water. Then, leave this one for fo
ur to seven hours and after that, rinse it off. You should rinse mouthwash or in
fusion many times till the symptoms go away. Other than this, it would be great
for you to know that alum is also used in some toothpastes.
Bleeding cuts- Some studies show that this one even has the capacity to treat th
e bleeding cuts. You can sprinkle the alum residue on such cuts to avoid an extr
a blood loss. But here, keep in mind that if your cut is too deep and the bleedi
ng is just not stopping, then you need some professional medical help. And so, a
t that time, don't just rely on an alum residue.
Anti-perspirant, anti-septic and astringent qualities- Due to all these qualitie
s, alum is used in many home remedies or otherwise in the medicinal product base
d companies. For, example it is used to treat the infection of a sore throat or
to give a rear kick to the skin allergies, especially after shave.
Types Of Alum
Alum is a double sulphate of potassium or another univalent metal like sodium or
ammonium and a trivalent metal like aluminium, iron or chromium.
Hence, there are the following types of alum :
Soda Alum - Sodium aluminium sulphate. It is used in the manufacture of baki
ng powder.
Ammonium Alum - Ammonium aluminium sulphate. It is used in water purificatio
n, in deodorants, vegetable glues, tanning, dyeing etc.
Chrome Alum - Chromium potassium sulphate. It is used in tanning.
Selenate Alum - In this compound selenium replaces the sulphur so a selenate
is formed instead of a sulphate. It is used as oxidizing agents and also as ant
iseptics.
Aluminium Sulphate - Technically it is not an alum. It is also called paper
maker's alum.
Uses Of Alum (Potash Alum)

Some of the uses of Alum are :
Since the earliest times, alum has been used for the purification of drinkin
g water as well as industrial water. It has the capacity to adsorb the suspended
impurities in water and these then settle down at the bottom making filtration
and subsequent purification easier.
It is used in the tanning of leather and is an ingredient of baking powder.
It is used as a pickling agent.
Alum is used as a flame retardant while it is also a component of foamite wh
ich is used in fire extinguishers.
It is used in cosmetics because of its astringent properties and is also use
d in many brands of toothpastes and tooth powders.
It is used to get rid of snails as in gardens and pots as it kills the snail
s as well as its eggs.
It is used as a roll on deodorant as it kills bacteria and prevent smelly un
derarms.
Alum is incorporated in body hair removal waxes as it soothes the skin.
Benefits Of Alum
In traditional systems of medicine like Ayurveda and the Chinese medicine, alum
is used both topically and internally for healing. Alum has antibacterial, astri
ngent, hemostatic, antipyretic, anti inflammatory and antiseptic properties.
Because of its astringent and antibacterial properties it has been used in o
ral health products. These are used as a mouthwash to protect against tooth deca
y and gum diseases.
Alum water made by putting some alum in water and stirring it is used as a b
athwater. It helps to stop itching and relieves body odor.
Styptic pencils (that which stop bleeding) are used to prevent bleeding from
nicks, cuts, abrasions and hemorrhoids.
In block form it helps to stop blood loss by coagulating the blood.
Alum is used as an adjuvant in vaccines.
Rubbing alum crystals or stone on insect bites gives relief from, itching, s
welling and redness.
Alum has no smell, does not block body pores and doesn't stain clothes and c
an be applied to the feet to stop foot odor while mixed with water it can be app
lied to the face to tighten pores. The solution can be washed off after 10 minut
es if applied on the face.
Alum also lightens, whitens, and also tones up the skin.
Alum mixed with 1/4 cup of witch hazel and applied on pimples and acne provi
des relief.
Powdered alum has been used as a remedy for ulcers.

secret home remedy for making face look younger.
Mix 1 tsp of alum powder with mashed banana and 1tsp of sugar. apply this pa

You can leave it for few hours or at least an hour if you are not in hur
ry. You can moisturize it after rinsing the face. For best result apply Phitkari
in the night before sleep and leave it for the rest of night. There is no harm
in leaving it longer once or twice a week.

Sitting in front of monitor doesn t darken eye. I ve been sitting in
front of monitor for over 20 years and on average 10 hours a day and 7 days a w
eek non stop. No sign of shades.
You have to change your life style and eating habits. Healthy ea
ting and regular exercise will help.
The worst affected people are coders like me who have to constan
tly stare at monitor during coding marathon and it makes eyes red at the end of
day not to mention you will have burning sensation in eyes. I used to have all t
hese before I discovered below mentioned.
Eye care
Give a break during monitor staring after every 10 minutes or so
.
Avoid staring at monitor during typing. Look at the keyboard dur
ing typing and make it habit.
Take a break every 20 minutes and stretch.
Make sure that you have enough light in the room where you sit a
nd stare at monitor.
Every hour or so or when you feel burning sensation in eyes take
a break and splash eyes with cold water few times. This is best way to keep eye
s healthy.
Massage your eyes gently from the bottom of your palm.
Drink water after every 30 minutes. Nothing to do with eyes but
it keeps your body well watered.

Abs skin is not so soft and there is a large area to apply alum so it mi
ght not be too effective in tightening. However if you are interested then give
it a try. Apply it regularly and see how it comes.

Best time to apply is after shave and leave it as long as you can. Shave
once a week when you are at home (e.g. Sunday), apply Phitkari as aftershave on
face and gently rub it all over face, neck, around eyes (to remove wrinkles aro
und eyes), around nose and forehead 2-3 times. Leave it as such without drying o
r touching with towel.
If this doesn t suit you then you can apply after shower or washing face g
ently in the night.

First of all stop using any cream at all they are not going to h
elp and they will make matter worse. Start Using phitkari on regular basis as I ve
explained in my post and in comments above. Eat healthy food, drink a lot of wa
ter and exercise daily. It will take some time but once you get into above routi
ne all your acne will be gone forever.

Applying alum on breasts can t uplift a lot. All alum does is that it tigh
tens the skin wherever you apply it regularly. I expect that regular application
of alum on breasts can keep them tight and avoid loose skins. It can stop breas
ts becoming shaggy & loose but it can t reverse if damage is already done.
Alum can t reverse the flow of nature all it can do is to prevent conditio
ns getting worse.
So to answer your question alum can t uplift the breasts but it can keep b
reast skin tight and stops breasts becoming loose and shaggy.

Our normal skin is elastic and it loses this property with age. It s natur
al process. Crow s feet problem is due to skin losing it s elasticity.
I ve never used Alumn in powder form or heated it. I always use Alum in cr
ystal form the one you see in image above.
I would advice to using crystal. Gently rub crystal around eyes after wa
shing face. Apply few layers gently around eyes and leave it as long as you can.
As I ve said before I always do so after my weekly shave and it keeps my skin wri
nkle free and gives young look.
There are other few habits you can resort to. First start drinking water
if you are not already doing so. Next is massaging face with oil. I use coconut
oil on daily basis it keeps skin moisturized in cold London weather. It s almost
odorless you don t feel it. Try massaging face with pure coconut oil once or twice
a week. Oil massage is magical. We Indians have nice skin thanks to the oil mas
sage we received from mums when we were babies. You are in UAE so oil massage mi
ght be little inconvenient due to hot and humid weather but you can still give i
t a try.
The best oil for massage is sarson ka
sticky and smelly. While growing up in India I
e that s the reason why I still have wonderful
. I m touching 40 and people still think I m a
tel (mustard oil) but it s too thick,

I think coconut might be better for skin than mustard oil and the reason
for my logic is obvious. We use mustard oil in North India for cooking, body ma
ssage and as hair oil and many other purposes. In South India they use coconut o
il for the same purposes. We all know South Indians have better skin than North
Indians and I attribute it to coconut oil among other things. South Indians also
have much better hair which can again attributed to heavy usage of coconut oil.
Try gently massaging face with coconut oil, specially around eyes. Keep
it as long as you can. I normally do in evening time and leave it for the rest o
f night. If you see good result then make it a habit. There is no harm in oil ma
ssage except that it might be smelly little bit but remember that the best thing
s in life don t come without a string attached.
So to sum up, water, oil and alum, in that order, could be your cure.

No it doesn t dry skin. You might feel dryness after applying alum
and leaving it for sometime. It s normal but it doesn t make skin dry. I stopped us
ing winter cream since I ve been using alum. My facial skin doesn t feel dry at all.
So as per my personal experience it doesn t dry skin at all. If you feel dryness
after applying alum then try not to pay any attention to it.

il in its true undiluted and authentic form is amazing! Believe me coz I have tr
ied it myself. My whole family uses it and a lot of people whom I have recommend

It depends on for what purpose you are using. I would advise to using Al
um only when it s required. Yes it can be used to heal most of minor wounds, bleed
ing, skin irritations etc. I m not sure about colour fix for new clothes. All I kn
ow is that Alum is used in dry cleaning in one way or another.

Two times a week should be sufficient. I wouldn t recommend using it daily
though. I use it once a week after shaving and I m done for the week. Start with
once a week and continue for few months. If you don t see any difference then appl
y twice a week. The important thing to remember is to keep it as long as possibl
e after applying. If you wash your face immediately after applying alum then it s
not going to help. I apply alum every Sunday morning after shave and leave it ti
ll late evening without washing face. My face keep glowing for a week and I ve no
wrinkle worries at all. As I said earlier, thanks to Phitkari I stopped using wi
nter cream even in this dry & chilly London winter.
However alum alone wouldn t be sufficient. You have to take care of your h
ealth in general. Drink a lot of water, get enough sleep. Do some yoga and prana
yam. Eat fruits and vegetables, cut down on processed/packaged food and avoid me
at as much as possible. Cook your own food.
I, personally, eat a lot of healthy food. I make sure that I have variet
y of food to ensure I get all nutrients. I cook Indian (less masala) in weekends
by including all those exotic Indian spices & herbs which ensures that I m well p
rotected from any common diseases. I do not smoke, don t drink and have no other b
ad habits.
I haven t been sick, not even a common cold/flu, in past 10 years. I ve neve
r visited a doctor and even I don t know who my GP is. It might sound impossible b
ut it s true and I m living example.
Go back to Ayurveda, our ancestors have already found the mystery of liv
ing healthy and living long. Don t use any cosmetic products. I m sure you can find
natural replacements for all your makeup needs. If in doubt ask neighbor aunties
and grandmas they know it all.

I haven t heard of alum curing pigmentation. AFAIK alum can not change ski
n color.
You can try various other home remedies which uses haldi (turmeric), ora
nge peel & potato, aloe vera, cucumber etc. Just Google Pigmentation home remedy a
nd you will find a lot of suggestions. First you have to identify what type of p
igmentation you have and then search for home remedies accordingly.
Avoid medicines and chemical products.

Yes totally. Alum (Phitkari) is excellent cure for mouth ulcers. However
I m not sure you should be sucking alum crystal for that. You need alum powder in
stead. Take pinch of pure alum crystal powder and put it around ulcer affected a
rea and keep it as long as you can. spit it out when your nerve gives up and don t
gargle with water. Let alum powder remain inside mouth as long as you can. If r
equired you can keep spiting out whenever you feel to. Remember the best cure in
nature are sour.

Phitkari (alum) can keep acne in control even in teenagers unless it is
a severe skin condition. If you are shaving then use phitkari as aftershave. If
not shaving then apply alumn after washing face in night and leave it overnight.
Phitkari doesn t help in getting fair complexion. No cosmetic can help you
in getting fair complexion. What is wrong with your natural skin colour? Why yo
u Indians are so obsessed with getting fair complexion?

Yes you can use it daily as long as acne keep appearing. If it s

tarts getting cured then use less frequent. Apply after cleaning out puss. It mi
ght be painful to squeeze out puss but that s the way. Make sure to clean towel af
ter use. With regular use oily skin will be also cured. Don t use any cosmetic or
any cream at all. India is polluted like hell, keep washing face by splashing co
ld water during the day when you come back from outside. Not to mention and you
might be already doing it but always take shower/bath with cold water. Cold wate
r keeps skin young. Drink as much water as you can, drink little warm water and
avoid drinking cold water. Our body is warm so you should drink little warm wate
r. Eat less spicy food. Exercise regularly but not pumping iron in gym. If you f
eel too lazy then do Surya Namaskar at least, this is the best and simplest yoga
you can do easily without much pain.

d clean all the cosmetic and chemicals you girls apply on your face. Wash Phitka
ri crystal and rub gently all over the face 4-5 times. Don t wash or dry the face
afterwards just leave it as such.
For Breasts
Do the same, after night shower/bath wash breasts again with cold water
and rub phitkari gently all over the breasts. Don t dry breasts with towel or wash
with water just leave it as such.
How to use Phitkari for Vagina Tightening
I just didn t want to write this thing straight forward, blame it to my In
dian upbringing. Since you have asked it straight forward I would reply in same
manner.
This is no secret that women in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and S
ri Lanka (entire Indian sub continent) have been using Phitkari for tightening v
agina. It works in same way as it does for face or any other skin.
Wash vagina and rub phitkari gently 4-5 times around it. I don t need to d
o graphic but you know better how to apply ?? just use your instinct. Don t take i
t too deep inside but keep it on the outer skin and little bit of inside. Don t wa
sh afterwards or dry it with towel. Leave it as long as you can.
There is another benefit of applying alum on vagina, it kills all bacter
ia, fungus etc.
Make sure to use the smoother side of phitkari as it can be rough on edg
es. After few usage you will end up with a smoother side.

I don t think you can cure pores with Alum. You need to moisturize your sk
in properly to cure pores. Use coconut oil regularly and keep skin dry and avoid
too much using water. My fingers have pores as I was my hands a lot and also do
all the dishes, washing etc. To cure pores I use coconut oil.

Pimples are the reason I ended up setting up this website and spreading
the alum love. Alum are the best cure for common pimples and shaving irritations
. It s better to prevent pimples rather than curing them afterwards.
Tx for sharing Argan oil, I haven t tried them and to be honest I never he
ard of them before. A quick Google search demystified it. I think Argan oil is s
ame for Moroccans as Sesame and Coconut oil is for us Indians.

You should not mix alum/alum powder with anything. Mixing alum powder in
face pack is not going to help you in anyways as alum must always be directly a
pplied to skin. Just use alum crystal and rub gently on your face 3-4 times and
leave it as long as you can. It s simple no fuss usage and keeps skin young and wr

Mix alum powder with rose water or just water and make paste. Apply this
paste over cheeks n chin area where you have hairs. Leave the paste as long as

No. Alum doesn t give you glow. It s not cosmetic. You have to chang
e your lifestyle to get facial glow.
Firstly start drinking water, a lot of it. Don t drink water befor
e and after meals. Drink as much as you can in the morning and keep drinking thr
oughout the day.
Next is to start doing Yoga. Do the proper one directly from the
books not the Ramdev s shit. Start with Surya Namaskar and do it properly in the
morning. Then do sports and sweat a lot. Sweating purges all toxic from the body
.
Get proper sleep in the night. Sleep like dead. If you have trou
ble in sleeping then repeat Gayatri Mantra and keep it repeating till you go int
o deep sleep. Do nothing if something disturbs but just repeat it. If you can t re
member Gayatri Mantra then repeat Upnishad s mahavakya
Aham Brahasmi
Brahm Satyam Jagan Mitha, Jeevo Brhmave Naparh
Aham Asmi
Any of these will work and will get you good night sleep. Even t
hough they are meant for something else but works perfectly well for me for gett
ing a nice sleep every night since I discovered this secret.
Avoid eating spicy food. Get into satvic food. Eat fruits, drink
juice.
Do oil massage with mustard oil or coconut oil. Massage face as
well with coconut oil. Mustard oil is thick and uncomfortable so coconut oil is
good alternative.
Keep washing face with cold water, wash in the morning after wak
eup. Wash in the night before going to bed. During day time wash it everytime yo
u come back home.
If you are shaving then do it less frequent. Throw away all cosm
etic including aftershave.
Etc etc.. list is long. Alum is not cure but a change in lifesty
le is.

Lol it s not a chemical which can wash your eyelashes. Why did you apply i
t over eyelashes? I apply it around eyes over eyelids and may be it also touches
eyelashes but never had any issues with hair falling off anywhere. If you have
any reaction with phitkari then stop using them or if it affects hairs then only
apply on skin and not near any hairs.
All hairs grow naturally so eyelashes will also grow eventually.

Don t use packaged/shaped alum they might be fake. Use natural one which w
ill be in irregular shape as you can see in the image at the top of this page.
Do oil massage with mustard or coconut oil at least once a week on whole
body including face. Oil is the best preservative not only for food but for bod
y as well.

Phitkari is the best deodorant and antiperspirant. So yes you can use it
. Sweating is normal. We Indians have loads of sweating glands underneath our sk
in so we have to sweat. Sweating is good it cleanse your body. Make sure to shav

dry. Splash wash it after some time. You can do it daily after taking shower.
For acne scar use honey and lemon paste and apply. You can also use hald
i (turmeric) paste and apply. Another remedy for removing acne scar is using ban
ana peels (inside) and rubbing over scar gently.

I would suggest doing physical hard work during the day time. Do sports,
run, walk, or do something to exhaust yourself physically. 100% sleep guarantee

10 Amazing Uses & Benefits of Alum/ Fitkari For Health, Hair & Skin
When we say the word " Alum", most of us think of it's use in shaving. But it ha
s other wonderful uses too. Though there are many types of alum, potassium alum
is the one commonly used for household purposes. Alum has been used since ancien
t times for it's many wonderful uses. Alum is either sold as fine powder or in b
locks, like shown in the above picture. It is also called shaving alum in the sh
ops. In India we usually get it in blocks. For home remedies, we can powder it i
n a mortar and pestle to a fine powder, if you have got it in blocks. Alum is ve
ry popularly used around the world for shaving and water treatment. It is amazin
g how alum purifies the water and it is one ingredient always advised for camper
s, in case they run out of good water. We also use alum for canker sores, treatm
ent for cracked heels, and even for mouth odor. Alum is very cheap, so try to ha
ve a block of alum for treating a variety of diseases at home!
1. ALUM FOR CANKER SORES:
Usually for canker sores, a small piece of
alum is powdered and then a pinch of that alum powder is pressed over the canke
r sore. It stings for a while, but by the next day, usually the person is reliev
ed of canker sores. But many don't like to use the alum powder as such and young
children will find it hard to bear the burn caused due to alum powder. This hom
emade alum mouth rinse is good way to use alum to get rid of mouth sores. To mak
e the rinse, powder alum in a mortar and pestle. Boil water in a pan along with
little salt, once the salt has dissolved remove from the heat and stir in the al
um powder. Once the alum has dissolved, strain and use it as a mouth rinse at le
ast 2 to 3 times a day. Salt is also very effective in treating canker sores and
this mouth rinse can be safely used by both young and old. If you are using the
raw alum powder, make sure not to swallow it while applying over the canker sor
e and use only a tiny bit.
2. ALUM FOR EYE ABSCESS:
Alum is wonderful for treating eye abscess. One of m
y relatives who taught me the remedy has been using it for eye abscess for quite
some time. For treating abscess, rub alum on a sandalwood stone along with litt
le water. You have to rub it nicely to get a paste, as it doesn't rub into a pas
te easily. This paste is very effective and it stings initially, when applied. B
ut the boil breaks on the same day it is applied, giving one a good relief from
eye abscess. In India, you can find this stone pretty easily. This stone can be
stored for years and used.
3. ALUM FOR CRACKED HEELS:
Alum powder is very useful in treating c
racked heels. For this remedy alum is heated in a small empty kadai. When we hea
t alum, it liquifies and foams. Once all the water evaporates, we are left with
a crumbly mixture. Once it cools down, it is powdered and mixed with coconut oil
and applied on the legs. The mixture should be ground smoothly, else it will be
difficult to apply it on the heels. This remedy gives amazingly good relief, if
applied regularly for some time.
4.ALUM FOR SHAVING:
Alum has been used as an after shave treatment for ce
nturies. Once you start using alum, you will get rid of all the expensive after
shaves. For the first time, you might not like it, but if you continue to use it
, you will find positive improvement in you skin tone. To use, after shaving, ru
b a piece of alum block over the wet face for few seconds. You can either wash i
t off or leave it on the skin.
5.ALUM FOR WATER PURIFICATION:
Alum is amazing for water treatment. To pu
rify the muddy water, powder alum and add about 1 gm of alum powder for every li
ter of muddy water. You will find the muddy particles settling down, leaving you
with clear water. Next time you go on a camping trip, take a small block of alu
m with you.
6.ALUM AS A DEODORANT:
Alum is wonderful as a deodorant due to it's antis
eptic and anti bacterial properties. To make the deodorant, powder alum along wi
th little myrhh and use it as dusting powder, or you could simply wet an alum bl
ock and use it. However it is advised to use it every other day instead of every
day.
7.ALUM FOR HAIR REMOVAL:
Alum can be effectively used for body hair re
moval for women. A mixture of alum powder and water or better still rosewater ca
n be applied all over the body. This paste tends to retard the body hair growth
over time.
8.ALUM FOR WRINKLES:
Alum can be effectively used for wrinkles. Take a piece of al
um and wet it in water. Rub it on your damp face for few seconds. Alum tends to
tighten the skin. Wash your face in water and apply moisturizer.
9. ALUM FOR PIMPLES:
Alum can be effectively used for treating pimples. A face p
ack made with egg whites, powdered alum and fullers earth is very effective in t
reating acne.
10. ALUM FOR LICE TREATMENT:
Alum can be used effectively to get rid of hair lice.
To make the lice treatment, powdered alum is mixed in water along with little t
ea tree oil. This mixture when applied on the scalp for some time, helps to get
rid of lice.

I kept a small piece of alum in mouth for 15-20 to rinse my gums etc. with i
ts effect. After 20 minutes threw the alum piece and started taking bath in the
bathroom. After some time my head started reeling and I felt like squeezing my h
ead and mouth. I became nervous and it appeared as if I will faint in a while. I
controlled myself and went to hospital. The doctor in hospital advised for an i
njection of voveran and rantidine which I refused to take. After sometime I star
ted feeling better but still some problem after repeated intervals. I took half
tablet of rantidine and felt little bit relief. My condition improved after 4-5
hours and I felt better. I did not swallow the alum and only kept it in mouth to
rinse it with my tongue. I am not sure if my restlessness, giddiness and squeez
ing like feeling was a side effect of alum. My only impression now is that overd
ose and ingestion of alum may probably have serious implications. Is thee any an
tidote in case of emergencies?

Remember alum is a type of salt. The side effects you felt were similar
to the ones after an Epson salt bath, but not as strong because you may not rema
in in the bath for more than 15 min. Salt, alike castor oil detoxify the body an
d when the body is detoxified it feels very weak and overdoing it gives you thos

Usually small quantities of alum ingestion does no harm, but overdose does.
I think you kept the alum in the mouth for too long. For rinsing your gums, alwa
ys powder the alum and mix it with water like mentioned in the post and don't ke
ep it in the mouth for too long. Just a few seconds of rinsing will be effective
. I don't know of any antidote for overdose of alum, it is best to consult a med
ical practitioner for alum overdose.........

Hi Imran Khan, please don't eat alum, as consuming large doses can be qu
ite toxic, instead try alum bath. Alum bath is very beneficial in shrinking the
hemorrhoids and can be safely done once a day till the hemorrhoids shrink. To ma
ke the alum bath, mix 1 part powdered alum to 5 parts water and mix well, this i
s your base mixture. Now fill a tub in which you can sit and fill it with 2 inch

Water purified using alum crystals are used for drinking, so I am sure i

I have a interesting one for you. I would like to use Alum to clear Koi fish
pond water. Now we know it is a super coagulant but it will also reduce the Ph
of the water creating a Ph crash which is dangerous and will kill the fish. Bica
rbonate of soda is a Ph stabilizer, My question is how much Alum and how much Bi
carb per 1000 Lt in dirty water will be needed to be safe and still do the job

Hi Neville, Try 1 tsp of alum powder and 1/2 tsp of baking soda for 10 l
iters of dirty water. When you are adding baking soda keep checking the ph level
s and once it comes to normal levels, stop adding it, usually 1/2 tsp of baking
soda per 10 liters will work well to raise the ph levels and I am sorry, I don't
know about treating skin cancer in fish with alum....

powder the alum finely, mix it in the liquid used in the face mask and then mix
the liquid and dry ingredients. But don't add too much of alum powder, usually 1

Alum temporarily tightens any area it is used (whether it is large or sm
all) as it as an amazing astringent and with regular use the skin does tighten f
or longer periods of time. But like with any astringent it causes dryness. To pr
event dryness it is absolutely necessary to moisturize after using alum. In my o
pinion, if you combine toning exercises along with using alum, it will give good
results. But don't forget to moisturize after using alum, I hope this helps....

Try a sitz bath for him by mixing alum in warm water. But start with ver

After reading all the comments above, I have a question. Initially in th
e post above it was said that pottasium alum powder is recommended to be used in
hot water for bathing. And in the conversations above it was said by you that a
lum is used for hair removal. The water which I am currently using is very hard
and because of that there is lot of hair fall. So I am planning to use pottasium
alum powder which is said to purify hard water.

So, Can I use pottasium alum powder to purify water before taking head b

It takes months of daily application of concentrated alum paste to effec
tively remove even fine facial hair and if the hair is a bit coarse it takes eve
n longer. The amount of alum we use for water purification is very less and sinc
e it is very diluted it has no effect on the skin and hair. If only the appropri
ate dosage of alum is added for water purification, there will not be any side e
ffects at all. Hope this clears your doubt...

I would suggest not using alum for private parts as it is quite irritati
ng and drying. For body hair removal, I would suggest using turmeric based bath
powder daily ( you can find the recipe in the blog). Though it takes some time,
turmeric based bath powders are the best for hair removal...

Try a very weaker solution of alum and water first, if you experience dr
yness or irritation even with the weaker solution stop using it and try these al
ternatives instead: Haritaki infusion (with water) or baking soda bath or apple
cider vinegar infusion or tea tree oil infusion....

Although alum does help treat infections, it is a skin irritant. Try a v
ery very weak solution, if you find it irritating, try this: boil neem leaves in
water and add few drops of tea tree oil and use it for sitz bath...

Yes you can use alum to treat mucocele. Either use alum as a rinse mixed
in water or apply a very tiny pinch of alum powder using the cotton bud on it.
But try not to swallow the alum powder when you are applying and use only a tiny
little bit, it will sting a bit...

Alum does help in shrinking the hemorrhoids. Only thick concentrated alu
m solution will irritate, I would suggest using a very very weak solution of alu
m powder mixed in lukewarm water and use it for sitz bath. Try for a few days da
ily and see how it works for you. If you feel there is no change increase the co
ncentration of alum slightly...

I have a big block of alum that I got long time ago and I am sorry, I do
n't remember the name. I usually powder the alum block if I want alum powder. Yo
u can use alum as a deodorant. The main side effect is drying of the skin and as
far as I know there is no long term side effects of using alum except drying. F

Yes, even a 15 year old can use alum and rose water for hair removal, th
e only side effect is drying of the skin which can prevented by applying moistur
izer after using it. There is no recipe, just take the required amount of alum p
owder, add enough rose water to get it into a paste and apply on the skin. Wait
till it dries, gently rub it off, wash and apply a moisturizer....

Ramya, I appreciate the information you've provided. I have a canker soar on
my inner lip and last night I applied alum powder directly to the soar. It is t
o my understanding that you are not supposed to keep it in for long, however I e
nded up falling asleep with it in my mouth for 6 hours. I now have little tiny b
umps surrounding the soar. They are not painful. Could this be an allergic react
ion? Have you heard of anything like this. Your response is appreciated.

I have not heard or experienced any reaction like you mentioned. But I w
ould suggest not applying alum on the canker sore anymore. Try applying oak gall
paste on it, it will heal both the canker soar and the allergy, it is also very
mild and safe...

Hi Ramya, I have these open sores on the shin of both legs. The Dr has no id
ea what caused the first one. It has been as big as 14x11 cm but very shallow. L
ike someone just peel ed aback the skin to revile the next area. The other leg w
as caused by my dog scratching me when playing. A friend of the family said when
he was a boy his mom would make a paste of alum and apply it to their cuts and
scrapes. Could alum help me in healing this up? The largest one I have had for 4
years with drainage. The second legs wounds just this year. The second one wher
e about healed when I developed cellulitis and the Dr said to use silverdine on
it and wrap it. After 2 or 3 days of this treatment these other woulds "bloomed"
on my leg. Any ideas as to treatment?
