Part 1 Individual Presentation (10 marks)

Instructions: You are to give a 3-minute response to a question. ONE (1) of the following
questions will be posed by your lecturer. These questions are provided before the actual
presentation to allow you sufficient time to prepare and to practice on your own. It is
recommended that you take time to read the questions carefully. Look up for appropriate
vocabulary to use as well as take time to organize your answers. Please take note that you
are not allowed to refer to any materials when you present.
Suggested practice questions for the individual presentation:
1) In your opinion, what sort of new jobs will be created within the field of education in
the next 10 years?
2) Do you think there is a need to continue to promote unity among undergraduates of
different races and nationalities? Why do you say so?
3) Based on your own experience as a student, what are some of the characteristics of a
quality teacher?
4) Do you agree that technology increases the burden of teaching? Why do you say so?
5) Why should teachers be more empathetic to their students? What is your opinion on this
matter?
6) As a former secondary school student, which aspect of the Malaysian school system
have you found to be most effective? Why do you say so?

Part 2 Group Discussion (10 marks)


Instructions: You are to discuss an issue/topic in groups. The following are Six (6) suggested
topics. However, your group will ONLY be required to discuss ONE issue/topic in class.
The issue/topic will be decided by your lecturer. You will be given a 2-minute preparation
time prior to the discussion. You are not allowed to refer to any materials when you
conduct the group discussion in class but you may write down notes during the 2-minute
preparation time and refer to them during the discussion. The maximum time given for
you to complete the group discussion is 20 minutes. Please note that every group member
must contribute to the discussion. The overall group marks will be deducted in the case where
there are members who do not participate actively in the discussion.
Suggested practice topics/issues for the group discussion:
1) Discuss new jobs that will be created within the field of education. Highlight why these
new jobs are needed and explain some of the responsibilities of these job holders.

2) Discuss activities that can be carried out to foster unity among undergraduate students
of different races and nationalities. Point out the benefits and challenges of each activity
suggested.
3) Discuss some of the ways to upgrade the quality of teachers nowadays. Compare the
qualities of teachers in the past to those today. Point out some negative qualities of
teachers that need to be improved.
4) Discuss how technology has changed the roles and responsibilities of teachers in
classrooms today. Relate your discussion to the advantages and disadvantages of using
technology in the classroom.
5) Discuss the importance of empathy in the teaching profession. Stress why teachers
nowadays seem to put aside empathy when dealing with problematic students in
schools.
6) Discuss some aspects of the Malaysian school system that needs to be changed.
Emphasize the reasons for change and the possible outcomes of the change.
