Environmental Forces

Italy its a boot shaped peninsula, which is formed down the

Mediterranean Sea. Italys ecosystem consist of mountainous high in the
Alps, freshwater river systems, shrub lands in the southern lands in the
southern part of the country, and temperate woodlands. The country has
no major deposits of oil, minerals, coal or other natural resources. Italy
has been slow at confronting the environmental problems. They have
had problems with air pollution, water pollution, etc. Italy has a lot of
projects that are helping to prevent more deaths and issues within its
environment and citizens. One of the major causes that Italy has is
hundreds of deaths, theres a program called the Viias Progetto. This
program is trying to help with the air pollution. This program has actually
really helped within this problem; there has been a huge change within
in the air and deaths. A problem which often presents itself regarding
drinking water is water pollution and the presence of harmful purifying
chemicals and/or herbicides, which can cause several health problems.
According to a decree issued by the state, the maximum presence of
herbicides or similar materials in Italy drinking water is 0.5 g (a micro
gram).Water pollution has been in Italy since the early 1960s. They
found an illegal toxin in the water that had polluted aquifers and rivers.

They have been investigating 20 people that may have caused this toxin
to be in the water.

Italy has a critical problem within its environment; there are different
types of governments concerned about it, for example the Ministry for
Ecology which was established since 1938, the Ministry of Culture and
Environmental Quality, the National Council for Research, and the
Ministry for Coordination of Scientific and Technological Research.
The Ministry of Ecology is in charge of the environmental issues. Which
consist of harmful effects of human activity on the biophysical
environment, they addressed through advocacy, education, and
activism. Sustainability is the key to prevent or reduce the effect of
environmental issues. There is now clear scientific evidence that
humanity is living unsustainably, and that an unprecedented collective
effort is needed to return human use of natural resources to within
sustainable limits.For humans to live sustainably, the Earth's resources
must be used at a rate at which they can be replenished.

The health impact of air pollution is large: 8220 deaths a year. Air
pollution has caused a lot of deaths because of bronchitis and other
respiratory problems. They started a group which help with this problem,
and its called Viias Progetto in Italian which means project viias.
This is the first project to help and warned about this big problem they
have.

One of Italys most important mountains is the Mont Blanc. The Mont
blanc which means the White Mountain, is very important because
underneath this mountain it has a tunnel. This tunnel is one of the major
trans-Alphine transport routes, particularly for Italy, which relies on the
tunnel for transporting as much as one third of its freight to northern
Europe. The tunnel was originally managed by two public companies,
each managing half of the tunnel. This mountain is the tallest one in
Europe.

Water pollution is another major problem in Italy because since the

late 1900s there was an illegal toxin found in the water, which affected
a lot of people, rivers, etc. They are still trying to figure out who did it,
they are investigating 20 people.

To conclude this essay about the environment in Italy, I think every
country has problems with their environment, and one way to help
prevent this is not throwing trash or anything in the rivers, seas, etc.
Italys environment is being controlled by all the organizations
contributing to this issue. As of the mid-1980s, however, little effort had
been made to control the number and speed of powerboats on the
Grand Canal (the churning of whose waters causes buildings to erode),
nor had the national government begun to implement a master plan for
Venice approved in principle three years earlier. Rome has implemented
a project designed, in part, to protect the Roman Forum and other
ancient monuments from the vibration and pollution of motor vehicles.
