stated that in 2003 the only income reported to
the IRS was Becky’s, although he performed
tree-cutting jobs.
He said in his civil trial testimony that a safety
deposit box contained around $60,000 to $70,000
and he had a key to that box. In her testimony,
Becky’s daughter said she and her mother were the
only two with keys until after a brief separation
between David and Becky.
In the civil trial, Moulton testified that “nothing
out of the ordinary” occurred on April 17, 2004,
prior to Becky’s death. He also testified that he went
to check on a tree job around 6:30 p.m. and was
leaving the house at the same time the pizza delivery
man arrived.
“We were both in the doorway,” Moulton said
in the civil trial.
He also said the pizza delivery driver was behind
him as he left to go check on the job with Ambrose
James.
In his written statement to police, Moulton said
he met the pizza delivery man at the door and told
him to come in and that his wife was in the kitchen.
He said he left and Becky paid for the pizza,
according to the written statement.
Moulton, in the civil trial, said he was gone from
the house 30 to 45 minutes at most. To his best
recollection, Moulton said during the civil trial he
was back at the house around 7 p.m.
In the civil trial, Moulton said he began worrying
about Becky when it got close to dark, even though
he had been looking for her previously.
Moulton was questioned in the civil trial
about why his wife would go walking through
the woods in flip-flops and he stated he does
the same thing.
He was also questioned why they would do
that and then warn West about snakes. “Call me
careless,” Moulton said.
When he was asked about yelling for his wife
from the back porch, Moulton said it was about
200 to 250 yards to the pond and if she were
down there she would have heard him.
In the civil trial, Moulton said when he found
his wife in the pond, he dove in and pulled her
to the edge but was too exhausted to pull her
body any further out of the water. Once he had
her half out of the water he said he began CPR
and then went to his truck to call 9-1-1. After
hanging up the phone, Moulton said he
continued CPR until EMS arrived at the scene.
Moulton also testified in the civil trial that
Becky was not wearing a cross necklace that
day because she was washing windows and,
besides that, it was broken.
He also testified the mark on Becky’s neck
was caused by a brass nipple on a C-collar placed
on her by EMS.
Moulton also said the EMS personnel
dropped Becky several times before he drove
them to the ambulance and once she was in the
ambulance he stood outside ranting and raving
for them to get her to the hospital.
In the civil trial, Moulton answered questions
about filling out life insurance forms around one
week after his wife’s death. He stated he didn’t
know how much life insurance money he would
receive, if any.
Becky’s life insurance was five times her
salary of $48,313 and $50,000 for a surviving
spouse.
After reading Moulton’s previous testimony,
the prosecution called Aaron Boatman to the
stand. Boatman was the pizza delivery driver
who made the delivery to the Moulton home.
Boatman testified he didn’t pass anyone
leaving the home and no one was outside at the
time he arrived at the Moulton residence.
Moulton answered the door and he handed
the pizza over to him. Boatman said Moulton
talked with him for a few minutes on the front
porch about dogs and Moulton paid Boatman
with a check.
Boatman testified a woman walked past the
front entrance to the home about 10 to 15 feet
away from him but nothing appeared wrong.
Moulton’s demeanor while Boatman was
present was polite and he was not nervous or
agitated, Boatman said.
When he left the residence, he said no one
was leaving in front of him or behind him.
Atlanta Fire Department Paramedic Daniel
Camp was one of the EMS responders to the
Moulton home on the night of Becky’s death.
Camp said he drove the ambulance with EMT
Tim Tolleson and Captain Dale Godwin
followed in a rescue truck. When they arrived
on the scene, Camp said they passed the pathway
to the pond and ended up down by the slough
area.
He said they got out of the truck and when
he saw Moulton with a flashlight he took off
toward him and followed him to the pond.
“He kept saying, ‘Help my wife. You gotta
come help my wife,’” Camp said.
When they arrived at the pond, Camp had
Moulton assist in pulling Becky completely out
of the pond. Camp said the first thing they did
after pulling Becky out of the water was check
for breathing and a pulse, but Becky had neither.
He said he began chest compressions and had
Moulton give Becky mouth-to-mouth. “I never
felt a pulse,” Camp said.
The ambulance and rescue truck were parked
on the sandy roadway near the path to the pond
and Tolleson and Godwin went to the pond area
on foot bringing some needed equipment
including a defribillator and a cardiac monitor
as well as a backboard.
Becky’s body was placed on a backboard and
then into the back of Moulton’s truck for
transport to the awaiting ambulance. Camp
testified they did not once drop Becky as they
carried her.
Throughout the transport, Camp said they
continued CPR and continued to assist when
they arrived at the hospital ER. He said they
assisted until the doctor pronounced her death.
Vomit in Becky’s mouth came into question
by the defense and Camp explained it wasn’t
unusual for stomach contents to come up during
CPR.

dropped at any time during transport to the
ambulance and he followed the ambulance in
the event they might need equipment off the
rescue truck due to the nature of the call.
