QC Bulldogs storm Brahmas in Hughes Springs tourney

The Queen City Bulldogs
had an impressive opening
day Thursday at the Hughes
Springs tournament. The
‘Dawgs faced the Paul
Pewitt Brahmas in opening
round action and routed the
Bulls 12-3.
At the end of the first
inning the game was all
knotted up at one apiece, but
the ‘Dawgs exploded for 10
runs in the second inning
and never looked back.
Pewitt would go on to
score one run apiece in the
third and fourth innings, but
never put together a serious
comeback attempt.
Queen City would add a
run to their lead in the
bottom of the fourth, but
never came back to bat as
the game was called after
five innings due to the time
limit.
Hunter Wilcher led Queen
City’s offensive onslaught
with a double and a single,
while Landon Shields
contributed a couple of
singled to the victory as
well.
Dillon Clayton was given
the win on the mound with
some relief help from Zane
Howard.
The Bulldogs continued
tournament play against
White Oak on Friday.

Rabbit Soccer Lady Rabbs

The Atlanta Lady Rabbits
rode a couple of strong
innings to victory over the
McLeod Lady Longhorns in
what was an otherwise close
competition. The final score
was 11-8.
McLeod jumped out to a
1-0 lead in the first inning,
and added one to it in the top
of the second before the
Lady Rabbs came back in
the bottom of the frame to
tie up the score. Both teams
would plate one run apiece
in the third to keep the score
tied at three.
Neither team could get
much going in the fourth,
but in the top of the fifth
McLeod plated a run to take
a short-lived lead. Atlanta
then exploded in the bottom
of the fifth for five runs to

The Lady Horns weren’t
finished, however, as
McLeod put up a furious
comeback attempt in the top
of the final inning scoring
four runs in the frame before
falling flat.
Mattie Abbott and reliever
Rachel Allday held the Lady
‘Horns to only three hits in
the contest, but walks and
errors made the game closer
than it should have been.
Abbott led ATL at the
plate with three RBIs on a
pair of singles. Paige
Sheffield connected for two
doubles and a single, while
Tye Davis contributed two
RBIs on three hits. Breanna
Ainsworth also contributed
a couple of singles.
Cheyenne Harris led
McLeod with a pair of
singles.
Allday was credited with
the win from the circle,
while Jacki Smith was
handed the loss for McLeod.

The McLeod Longhorns
played host to the visiting
Avery Bulldogs on
Thursday night, and
whipped them soundly 11-
1.
McLeod jumped out to an
early 3-0 lead when Ben
Paschall jacked a ball over
the fence with one man on
base in the first inning. The
‘Horns would score two
more runs in the second
inning before Avery’s
defense could pull it
together enough to shut
them out of the third.
It didn’t matter because
when Grayson Porter
stepped to the plate with a
man on base in the bottom
of the fourth, he, too, went
deep to give the ‘Horns a 7-
0 advantage going into the
fourth inning.
Neither team would score
in this frame, but Avery
finally managed to get on
the board when they plated
a run in the top of the sixth.
Not to be outdone, the
Longhorns came storming
out in the bottom of the
inning and plated four runs
to create the final margin of
victory.
Avery was once again
shut out in the seventh and
final inning and McLeod
didn’t even have to take its
final turn at the plate.
Porter went the distance
on the mound for McLeod,
and with some help from his
defense only allowed the
Bulldogs two hits.
The win makes McLeod’s
record 3-1. The Longhorns
played at Sulphur Bluff on
Friday.
