Moral Recovery Program Essay

I am proud to be Filipino. I am proud of my values instilled to me growing up. I am proud

to be living in a family oriented country. I am proud that we are able to go through a lot
of challenges, no matter how difficult they are, and still being able to smile. But there are
some things that I am not proud of, like graft and corruption, laziness, lack of discipline,
colonial mentality, crab mentality, ningas cogon, that are very much evident in our
society. And these need to be addressed and handled. Patricia Licuanan, the author of
the Moral Recovery Program, specifically stated and described what our strengths and
weaknesses are. Revolutionary events happened in the past to make us proud as a
Filipino and it defined who we are. She found ways of how we can improve ourselves as
a people and nation and have better character development. I can really relate to the
author because I experience these Filipino characteristics of strengths and weaknesses
every day. I see it from my family, friends, peers, strangers and media. I am guilty of
some things she mentioned and it made me think and reflect of who I am as a person ,
and which traits I should retain and remove to be able to develop continuously. Being
people and family oriented, flexible, creative, adaptive, religious, and sometimes
humorous are the many faces of being Filipino. Our strengths, being used excessively
makes it a weakness. Today, a lot of our weaknesses are on display because of the
struggles and issues we Filipinos have to deal with every single day. We are greatly
affected by the way our cumulative actions has gone from. We rely too much on the
government and the system with our lack of discipline that we do not get to reflect if we
ourselves are being an asset or a liability to society. The author covered a number of
goals and strategies on how we can improve as a nation, a Filipino nation for that
matter. I agree with the authors essay that a lot of changes and improvements need to
be done in aspect of our political, economic, social and influential environments. We all
have to educate and be educated in order have a better livelihood and be able to
continue to grow. A lot of factors needs to be considered and it is up to us individuals to
reflect on what needs to be worked on to make our country be a better place. We need
to work hard, have faith, be optimistic, persevere, and be loving people. The most
important principle that we must integrate to society is doing all things with love,

discipline and compassion. We are all works in progress. There is always hope. Let us
be the change that we want to see and become the hope and strength of our nation.
