TOPIC: On the top of the world
UNIT 2 : Nepal trek
TIME: 50 minutes
AIMS:
- develop Ss vocabulary related to travels;
- to motivate Ss to communicate in English;
- to show interest on the topic;
- to make students confident in using their skills;
- to improve Ss pronunciation and to motivate them to learn more and more words in
English;
- to stimulate Ss creativity and imagination.
By the end of the lesson the Ss will be able to:
- make up sentences using phrasal verbs with go;
- to practise on drawing conclusions using phrasal verbs with go;
- to present and practice ways of describing trips and travels;
- to solve vocabulary exercises on the lessons topic;
SKILLS INVOLVED: speaking, reading, writing;
TEACHING AIDS: Students books, board;
TYPE OF ACTIVITIES: individuals, whole class, group work.
STAGES:
Activity 1: Warm up (3 min)
Teacher's activity: T checks homework. Teacher tells Ss what they are about to do / the aims of
the lesson: Today were going to learn some new vocabulary related to travels and draw
conclusions using phrasal verbs with go. T prompts Ss to look at the text on pages 14-15 and
asks: Would you enjoy going on this sort of trip? Why?/Why not?.
Students' activity: Ss look at the text and report back to the class.

Activity 2: Lead in; Brainstorming activity (10 min)


Teacher's activity: T writes on the board four headings: Mountain; Sea side; Big cities; Others. T
elicits one or two examples for each category. After writing the examples, Ss open their books and
read the list for any new vocabulary item. T can practise on any difficult pronunciation.
Students' activity: Ss close their books and give examples. Ss come and write their answers at the
board. They brainstorm all the vocabulary they know for that category, then check in the SB. Ss
can also use the dictionaries to check new words.

Activity 3: Vocabulary practice (10 min)
Teacher's activity: T divides the class in pairs/ groups to find exemples in text of phrasal verbs
with go. Each group must fins at least two phrasal verbs. T checks it with the whole class, by
eliciting answers from the individual Ss. T encourages the rest of the class to add/ to complete the
list.
Students' activity: Ss make sentences trying to guess the meaning of the phrasal verbs. Report
back to the class.

Activity 4: Guess the location (5 min)
Teacher's activity: T instructs Ss to write a description of a trip from them life in different
location, but DO NOT write their name. After writing, T collects the papers and gives them out to
another S. T checks with the whole class that the identification is correct eg. some Ss read out the
description and say who it is and the author confirms the identification.
Students' activity: Ss work in groups to identify the correct places.

Activity 5: Comprehension (10 min)
Teacher's activity: T asks Ss to have a look at ex. 1, point b), pg. 15 from the textbook and try to
solve it.
Students' activity: Ss have a close look at ex. and think of their answers, then report back to the
class and be prepared to draw a conclusion to colleagues.

Activity 6: Vocabulary practice (10 min)
Teacher's activity: T instructs Ss to have a look at ex. 1 , page 15. T checks for any unknown
words.
Students' activity: Ss have to guess the meaning of the words and phrases provided in the list.

Activity 7: Feedback; Assigning homework (2 min)
Teacher's activity: T gives some thumbs up to the Ss who managed well during the lesson,
assigning marks if possible and encourages the other Ss that tried to give correct answers but
failed. T explains homework Imagine and describe a mountain trek.
Students activity: Ss ask questions regarding the lesson and/or the homework.
