New KHS Coupling Series from GAM

Mount Prospect, IL -A torsion-resistant coupling series tested to unparalleled speeds of 25,000

RPM and designed to operate even faster is available from GAM. No other metal bellows coupling
in the industry is able to operate in applications above 15,000 RPM. The innovative KHS Coupling
Series features a four-corrugated, stainless steel bellow and aluminum conical bushing hubs.

With an unsurpassed low moment of inertia and high torsional stiffness, this coupling series is
ideal for test stands, spindle drives and other high-speed applications. The degree of torsional
stiffness ranges from the KHS-15 featuring a nominal torque of 15 Nm at a moment of inertia of
0.03 10-3kgm2 to the KHS-600 with a nominal torque of 600 Nm at a 5.3 10-3kgm2 moment of
inertia. The four additional KHS models feature nominal torque ranging from 40 to 400 Nm at a
moment of inertia ranging from 0.13 to 2.5 10-3kgm2.

Because of their unique design to achieve a high level of

torsional stiffness, metal bellows couplings like the GAM KHS
Series are also capable of accommodating significant
misalignments between powertrain components. No other
coupling style balances these two design requirements so well.
For these reasons, the metal bellows are often specified to
compensate for assembly misalignments, bearing wear,
vibration and thermally induced dimensional changes.

The high-precision GAM KHS Series features maximum lateral

misalignment of 0.1 inches and a maximum axial misalignment
ranging from 0.5 to 0.7 inches. The couplings range in size from 1.56 to 4.8 inches. GAM's
torsion-resistant couplings are maintenance-free, with durable parts and frictional shaft-hub
connections.

Due to its patented press-fit connection method to lock the bellows to the hub, GAM's couplings
transmit torque around the coupling's entire circumference. This design is more reliable at high
temperatures than adhesive connection methods. It also avoids the problems of spot welding
where a connection is not in place around the entire coupling circumference.
