Bio-Bus
powered by you!

The Bio-Bus runs on gas that

is generated from treating
human and food waste.
To fuel the bus biomethane is
produced from GENeco's stateof-the-art plant at Bristol sewage
treatment works in Avonmouth.
It has the same composition as
natural gas and is injected into
the national gas grid network and
can be used to supply domestic
properties or used as vehicle fuel.
The Bio-Bus is running as a trial to
showcase the possibilities of gaspowered transport and its benefits
to the environment. So sit back and
enjoy your 'poo-powered' journey.

how does it work?

Every year GENeco treats 75 million m3
of sewage waste and 35,000 tonnes
of inedible food waste in Bristol.
This waste gets digested for 1218 days by special bacteria,
producing methane-rich biogas.
The gas is then cleaned to remove
CO2 and impurities, upgraded
and checked for quality.
The dome-like tanks on the roof
of the vehicle, are then filled with
the gas that powers this bus.
The bus can travel around 300km on a
tank of gas. The engine itself is similar
to that found in a normal diesel bus.
