Tropical Medicine System

1. Rational/synopsis:
Family medicine course is a part of bachelor curriculum in Faculty of Medicine Universitas Padjadjaran delivered
in seventh semester, which covers the application of family medicines principles in managing the patients
problems. Knowledge of the disease pattern of cases in primary health care is important in order to make the
correct diagnosis. As a generalization, a doctor sees medical problems that are largely self-limiting and the task
is to confirm this is so, provide the necessary reassurance and treatment to resolve the symptoms.
The course will focus on the biopsychosocial approach in managing the health problems and focus in the
processes of care such as:
1. Good preventive care
2. Good acute care
3. Good chronic disease care management
4. Good step down care
5. Good elderly care
6. Good domiciliary care and
7. Good palliative care
The topics are developed based on lifecycle.

The students must attend every part of the sessions. The complete course study guide and learning guide will be
given to the students. There are required readings for each topic and it might be useful to read it prior the
tutorial session. Mini lecture session will be conducted to equip appropriate knowledge.

This system is intended to fullfill Standar Kompetensi Dokter Indonesia Level 1-4

3. Number of SCU and length of week:


The number of credit for this course is seven- (7) semester credit unit (scu). This course will be delivered in
seven (7) weeks. There are 21 sessions of tutorial (150 minutes each session), 7 sessions of skills lab (200
minutes each session) and 7 sessions of mini lecture (100 minutes each session).
