Explanatory Notes: Title :

AD015 - Pile Eccentricity Analysis

Revision :

R0

Objective :

1. To compute each pile reaction due to column loading

Notes :

1. Key in the following details for the pile eccentricity analysis:

a.) Number of piles
b.) Total Column Loading
c.) Moment at x & y directions
d.) Each Pile Allowable Working Load
e.) Pile Length after cut off
d.) Pile Characteristic Strength, Fcu
f.) Pile Eccentricity

Concept & Method:

1. Loading on piles (considering column loading only)

P = Pile Stiffness Ratio x Total Column Loading
Pile Stiffness Ratio =

Pile Vertical Stiffness , (Ecs x A) / L

Total Pile Vertical Stiffness , (Ecs x A) / L

Where

Ecs = Pile's Young Modulus (based on BS8110 Part 2:1985, Eq.17)

A = Pile Allowable Working Load
L = Pile Length after cut off

2. Additional loading on piles (considering pile deviation and moment)

Padd = (Nexx/yy + Mx/y) x Yn x Ai
Ixx/yy
Where

N
= Total Column Loading
exx/yy = Resultant eccentricity, exx (in y direction) , eyy (in x direction)
Mx/y = Moment at x / y direction
Yn = Resultant Y - coordinate for pile n
Ai = Allowable Pile Working Load for pile i
Ixx/yy = Total Moment Inertia in x / y direction

Limitation:

1. Limited to only three (3) to forty (40) nos. of piles.

2. Column position is always consider located at position 0,0.
3. X and Y (Original) refer to the original pile location
with respect to column position.
4. Use worksheet "Determination of C.G" to compute the
centroid of combined column.
