Some people believe that university students should be required to

attend classes. Others believe that going to classes should be

optional for students. Which point of view do you agree with? Use
specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

Some people say that it should be optional for university students to
attend classes because they can learn many things from books on
their own.
However, in my opinion, university students should be required to
attend classes.
First, universities provide us with various highly-advanced subjects
such as literature, philosophy, and psychology. All of them are rarely
taught in high schools. These subjects deal with our human aspects
like human sensitivity, the way of thinking and how to tackle up and
down of our emotions and feelings. We often face challenges in our
daily lives such as the moment of break-up with partners,
understanding difficult persons with different views from ours and
others.
However, those subjects can help us enrich the pool of solutions
towards those challenges. In addition, professors delve into each
subject and teach us about details of them. I think we should not miss
out such a precious opportunity.
Second, from the broader perspective, tertiary education helps us
push the boundaries of the possible. We can acquire the skills of
critical-thinking, and problem-solving. For instance, I took a marketing
course and was given various tough assignments of marketing such
as the possible way to revitalize declining companies, and navigate
them to sustainable success. Fortunately, I teamed up with some
brilliant guys. We exchanged many opinions such as streamlining the
organizational structure, human resource management and others
through hot discussions. Finally, we summarized relevant ideas and
submitted the final paper. As a result, we could get A grade on the
assignment. At the moment, I could feel that my critical thinking and
problem-solving skills improved a lot because at first, I was a kind
overwhelmed by the assignment and thought we would fail but we
could succeed.
Universities provide us with the venue for lots of outputs and inputs
through discussions, debates and lectures. Why dont we make the
most of such opportunities that contribute to our development and
enhancement.
I really recommend university students to attend classes and think
that they should as well. 336 words

Some people make the clam that university students can learn things

from books on their own, so it should be optional for them to attend

classes. However, I think attending classes should be mandatory to
every university student.
First, universities provide us with highly-advanced education as our
lifetime asset and a foundation for our future career. Look at the
importance of university-level education from the global point of view.
In least developed countries, most of people dont have to access to
tertiary education, and even secondary one. On the other side, people
in developed countries have it. In addition, many reports from United
Nations show us the data measuring the impact of tertiary education
that indicate people who completed the education level account for a
large proportion of the global leaders both in economic and political
spheres, not those who didnt complete. This reflects the significant
effect of university-level education on our future path along with
development and enhancement of our abilities.
In conjunction with it, professors provide us with precious
opportunities for our learning. For instance, they sometimes invite
politicians and business leaders as guest speakers by using their
personal connections that we rarely have. We can learn more
profound and deeper things from their actual experiences through
talks, and then apply them to our learning.
Why can we miss out such informative opportunities?
Second, we can gain interpersonal skills through group work with
classmates that are necessary for us to live in our society. In group
exercise, we have to communicate even though we dont like it.
However, in the long run, we can acquire real communication skills
through trials and errors, which are difficult to polish on our own
because we rarely have the opportunities to talk on face-to-face in
our modern world where our communication venue has shifted from
the public places such as caf, and hair salon to the Internet.
Universities provide us with the place for face-to-face human
interactions.
Third, we can cultivate a sense of responsibility. We are required to be
at a particular place at a particular time or submit papers on time.
Being punctual is one of the most basic requirements when we work.
So, it is recommendable to train ourselves to be responsible in
universities.
Thats why I think attending classes should be mandatory to every
university students. 382 words
