Explanation
Fade transition to the
light bulb.
Off screen you can hear
the door being opened
and closed.
To show what the women
is grabbing in the cellar.
Sound of some sort
linking with something
paranormal happening in
the film.
To show her reaction to
the noise.
Movement to another
camera to show more of
her reaction to the noise
as well as her reaction
through body language,
shown by her folding her
hands or by her
movement of her head
scanning the room.
Shows her quick escape
out of the cellar as well
as shows her running up
the stair off screen. By
sound of the footsteps it
sounds like she is quickly
running up the stairs
because shown by her
body language that she is
scared.
Cut to the upstairs
showing the time when
the film takes place,
which is Christmas shown
by all these Christmas
cards.
See many things in this
shot for example the
wine glass shows a
romantic dinner is
happening. You can hear
the door closing but that
is just for continuity.

Pov and lighting

By looking at their
clothes they are both
from respectable
backgrounds and have
good paying jobs.
The man is actually
sitting on a chair while
the woman sits on the
ground. This can show
many things for example
it could show that he is
going to the protagonist
because he has more of
the screen or he is higher
up showing he is the
important one in this
scene.
A close up shot to show
the reward and through a
reflection. We can see
how happy the couple are
for winning the award.
Just to show what the
characters are doing as
well as through dialogue,
we can hear that the man
is an experience child
therapist in Philadelphia
as well as his name is
Malcolm.
Love scene is about to
happen so the camera
moves away so the
audience knows what is
going on but cannot see
every detail.
Cut to the bedroom
because the characters
have moved as well as it
keeps cutting from
Malcolm to his wife, a lot
faster to show what each
character is doing or to
show how excited they
are.
We see a point of view
from Malcolm to show the
broken window and the

face. The lighting also
shows of the film that the
horror element is about
to begin.
The shot keeps changing
from Malcolm Pov to a
medium shot of both of
them. I think they did this
to show that Malcolm is
the more protective and
brave by him taking
control as well as show
how afraid the woman is.
Lots of Pov from the
stranger to Malcolm to
show what they are doing
and their reactions, you
could call this the 180
rule.
Control is passed from
the stranger to Malcolm
repeatedly.
Samson shoots Malcolm
in match on action, then
panning shot to the left
so the audience dont see
him commit suicide.
We see the camera
moving away from
Malcolm on the bed then
a fade happens.
