Background

Objectives

Registration

The main failure modes of bituminous

pavements are rutting and fatigue cracking. While rutting is a pronounced failure
mode during the early years in a pavement, fatigue (load) cracking manifests
during the later periods in the life of a
pavement.

The main objective of this course is to

provide the participants with an overview
of the current trends in laboratory characterization of rutting and fatigue cracking
as well as on the development of distress
transfer functions.

No registration fee will be charged to

teachers of AICTE recognized engineering institutions.

In the pavement design procedures, the

onset of rutting and fatigue cracking are
taken into account through distress transfer functions. Such functions/models are
developed after extensive laboratory investigation, model development, and integration of field performance data with the
laboratory data. Tacit in such framework
is the assumption related to mechanical
behavior of materials, damage mechanics integrated with the expected reliability.

In the last decade, considerable advancements have been made in terms of development of experimental procedures for
quantifying rutting and fatigue cracking.
The pavement design software such as
AASHTOWARE have also integrated the
influence of environment, axle loads and
material models in quantifying the expected pavement life.
