BAHASA INGGRIS SMP


The following text is for questions 1 to 4.
A long time ago, in East Java there was a kingdom led by Prabu Merak. He had a
handsome prince named Raden Banterang. Their kingdom had a battle with Klungkung
kingdom.
One day, Banterang was hunting with his guards when he met a very beautiful woman.
Although it was strange to find a beautiful woman in the jungle, he asked her,
Who are you, lady? The lady told him that she is the daughter of Klungkung King who
ran away to the jungle to escape from the battle. Banterang was quite shocked in hearing
this, because his father Prabu Merak was the king who killed the womans father.
Nonetheless, Banterang fell in love with her and took the woman to be his wife. Later the
womans brother found out the marriage. He gave his sister a keris and asked her to kill
Banterang.
Banterang found the Keris on his bed. He thought that his wife would kill him. However it
was the princess brother who put the keris on the bed. The princess and Banterang then had
a quarrel. In her desperate attempt to prove her innocence, the princess jumped into a river.
Since then, the river is known Banyuwangi. Banyu means water and wangi means fragrant.
The rivers name reflects the princess honesty.

The following text is for questions 5 to 9.
Tabuik ceremony is a tradition on the west coast of West Sumatra, Indonesia,
especially in Pariaman. It is held at the Asura day which falls on the 10 th of Muharram of
the Islamic calendar. In Bengkulu it was known as Tabot. Tabuik is made of bamboo,
rattan, and paper. During the week of Tabuik many activities are held including kite race
and other traditional activities. Tabuik is also a term used to refer to the high funeral biers
carried around during the remembrance procession. On the appointed day, all participants
of the ceremony gather in the centre of the city. All goverment officials also attended this
colossal ceremony in West Sumatra.
One Tabuik was carried by 40 people. Behind Tabuik, a group of people wearing
traditional clothes carry various of percussion. Occasionally when the line of peope in the
procession stop, dozens of people perform martial arts accompanied by Minang
tetabuhan.
The sunset marks the end of the procession. The Tabuik was then brought to a shore
and then floated out to sea. This is conducted as they believe that throwing Tabuik into the
sea will dispose of bad luck.

How to make Ice Cream

Ingredients :
* 2 cups milk (not skim) or cream
* 2 tablespoons sugar
* 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract (can substitute other flavoring.)
* Several cups of Ice (the smaller the pieces, the better)
* 1 cup salt (rock salt is best, but table salt can also be used)
You need these supplies to make ice cream
* Tub or large coffee can to hold salt and ice
* Glass bowl or small coffee can
* Electric mixer or whisk
* Ice cream scoop
* Storage container for freezer
Instructions :

- Setting up the cooling apparatus. Stir ice and salt in the larger container. Doublecheck that the small container will fit into the larger one even with the ice.

- Combine the ingredients. Mix together the milk, sugar, and vanilla in the glass
bowl. Then, set this bowl in the tub filled with ice and rock salt, making sure that the salt
water does not spill into the bowl. Instead of a glass bowl and tub, you can also use a small
coffee can inside a large coffee can.

- Mix the ice cream. Mix the ingredients in the small container vigorously. The salty
ice mixture will cool the mixture down until it turns into ice cream. Mix very thoroughly. If
you're using a whisk instead of an electric mixer in your glass bowl, you'll have to stir very
hard, or ice crystals will form in the ice cream. If you are using the coffee can method, make
sure both cans are well sealed, and then roll and shake to mix the ice cream mixture. It
should take about 10 to 15 minutes to stir the ice cream using either method. Stir until it is
free from ice crystals and is the right consistency.

My family and I arrived in Medan yesterday evening. We took the last flight from Jakarta. We

Once upon a time, there was a flock of doves that flew in search of food led by their
king. One day, they had flown a long distance and were very tired. The smallest dove
picked up speed and found some rice scattered beneath a banyan tree. So all the doves
landed and began to eat.
Suddenly a net fell over them and they were all trapped. They saw a hunter
approaching carrying a huge club. The doves desperately fluttered their wings trying to
get out, but to no avail. The king had an idea. He advised all the doves to fly up together
carrying the net with them. Each dove picked up a portion of the net and together they
flew off carrying the net with them. They flew to a hill near a city of temples where there
lived a mouse who could help them. He was a faithful friend of the dove king.

of water or water guns. In addition, many Thais will have small bowls of cheap beige

random passersby as a blessing for the new year. City officials close off many sections of
the street for the festival.
Besides the throwing of water, people celebrate Songkran by going to a wat (Buddhist
monastery) to pray and give food to monks. They also cleanse Buddha images in the
household shrines as well as Buddha images at monasteries by gently pouring water
mixed with a Thai fragrance over them. It is believed that doing this will bring good luck
and prosperity in the New Year. In many cities, such as Chiang Mai, the Buddha images
from all of the citys important monasteries are paraded through the streets so that people

The ceremonies are started with the procession of the dreadlock kids around the village. They are
paraded on Javanese traditional horse drawn carriage or Dokar guarded by ManggalaYudha or royal
troops and followed by various traditional art processions. Then they are taken to the Arjuna Temple
in the Dieng Temple complex where the ritual of the dreadlock hair cutting will take place.
