Objective of Unit:
The objectives of this course are to:
provide fundamental principles and concepts of organic for engineering students,
develop analytical and problem solving skills for chemistry problems.

Learning Outcome of Unit:


After completing this unit, students will be able to:
(a) apply the rules of organic nomenclature, including the ability to name simple
organic compounds and draw correct structures from names,
(b) select suitable reagents to accomplish appropriate functional group transformation
for polymers,
(c) classify organic compounds including biomolecules: lipid, amino acids, peptides
and proteins,
(d) illustrate the functions of paint, vanish, lacquer and enamel,
(e) analyse experimental results and produce a full engineering laboratory report.

The unit covers organic chemistry, biochemistry, polymer chemistry and industrial
chemistry.
