NIE works on a concept of family, where in each member shares the
responsibilities and is free to express his opinions / suggestions.
Student Feedback on Institutional Governance/faculty performance
At the end of each semester, every student fills Performance appraisal
formats for each of the staff members who have taught them during the
semester. There is a student council which meets the principal and
management regularly to convey there grievances.
Grievance redressal mechanism for faculty, staff and students
Regular meetings will be held with the principal and management. Each
department has a complaints/suggestion box to meet the needs of these
students who want to be anonymous.

Facilities
The Department has a full-fledged computer centre. The Departmental library has text books on
subjects of current interest, dissertation and project reports and other special publications.
The Department offers special facilities with Trebel 70-t Universal Testing Machine, 40-t and
10-t loading frames, AIMIL 100-t stress controlled Compression Testing Machine, Nondestructive Ultrasonic Concrete Tester, Windsor Probe, Universal Tri-axial Testing Machine,
Digital Spectrophotometer, Gas Chromatograph, TDR Soil moisture probe, Roland DG Plotter,
Summagraphics Digitiser and Total Station. Facilities to conduct various open channel and
closed conduit flow studies and watershed research are also available.
Department of Mechanical Engineering

Facilities
The Department has a Computer Center with the latest PCs. Software facility includes
AutoCAD Release 2000 with 3-D Studio and Visual Link. CAD-CAM Software such as NISA,
PROE 2000,ANSYS, Solid Works, IDEAS are available. The Department has maintained a
library having over 2000 books on various topics. The Department has established centers like
Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC), Center for Material Research (CMR) to carry out
studies on Composite Materials. A Computer Controlled Multi Cylinder Diesel Test Rig is one
of the many other facilities available.
The Department has acquired the following latest machines
ROBOTIC SYSTEM -Make: Intelitek (ISREAL): A 5- axis robot with accessories such as
linear slide, Rotary carousel and gravity part feeder. It is integrated with a Robotic Vision
System.
CNC TRAINING CENTER Objectives:
1) To provide training to our students;
2) To offer vocational Training to Operators and Practicing Engineers;
3) To provide services to Local Industries as a Production Center
CNC Vertical Machining Center-Make: ACE WINNER: A Production machine with a 12
station automatic tool changer, Operations such as Milling, Drilling, Rigid Tapping, Boring, Slot
Milling etc can be performed.
CNC Lathe-Make: ACE COLT: A Production machine with a 8 station turret
A Glimpse of Automation lab.
With the assistance of Technical Education Quality Improvement Program (TEQIP-II), the
Mechanical Engineering Department has established an Automation lab exclusively for IAR
course, which consists of different automation equipments such
as
Hydraulics
and
Pneumatics training system, PLC kit, Mechatronics training system, Flexible manufacturing
system, Rapid prototyping equipment and a Robotics system with necessary electronic
software such as Step-7 related to PLC Animations. The laboratory is also equipped with
Software such as Digital Manufacturing System (Delmia), Modelling and Analysis Software
Hyper Mesh and Hyper view.
Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering

Facilities
The Department has maintained a Computer Centre with state of art computers, MATLAB
software package, MIPOWER software package for study and analysis of large power
systems.The department has been well equipped with electrical machines like Induction motors,
Synchronous motors and Transformers other than imported equipments like AC modulator servo
system, Process control simulator, the department has well developed Microprocessor and Power
electronics lab. The department is proud to have recognized HV testing facilities under dry and
rain conditions and impulse testing of insulators. HV lab is equipped with 400KV impulse
generator, 300KV HV transformer and 100KV DC set. Recently the department has started
testing and auditing division under the name CEMATEA (Centre for Energy Management and
Test systems for Electrical Apparatus) attached to research and consultancy cell at the institution.
The department is a well recognized center for academic research. It has already produced 8
Ph.Ds and 9 candidates are working under VTU programme.
Department of Electronics & Communications Engineering

Facilities
The department has sufficient number of Pentium machines with modern computer peripherals.
The Department library has a number of text books, manuals and data books. Modern
equipments available in the department include Analog and Digital Oscilloscopes varies analog,
digital and Power Electronics training Boards. Microprocessor and Microcontroller Boards,
Digital and Analog Communication modules, Antenna, Microwave and fiber optic trainers. IC
tester, Texas/Motorola DSP Boards. To mention a few important software available are Design,
testing and Simulation of electronics circuits using ICAP, WINDOW BASED CIRCUIT
SIMULATION package, MATLAB version 5.3 with simulink, DSP and image processing
toolboxes. FPGA, CPLD boards and Xilinx Synthesis software and Linux operating system and
windows based Network simulator.
Department of Industrial Production

Facilities
The Department has a Library of its own with over 600 titles on various Production & Industrial
Engg. Topics. The Department has a well equipped Metrology Lab with sophisticated
instruments like NIKON Measuroscope, Digimatic Calipers, Universal Gear Tester, Perthometer,
Profile Projector, Alignment Telescope, etc. It has an Industrial Engineering Lab. with facilities
to conduct test on Tread Mill, Ergometer. The Machine Tool Lab. is equipped with Instruments
to measure, Cutting Forces with a Lathe Tool Dynamometer, Drilling Dynamometer &
Temperature Measurements, etc. It has a Computer Lab of its own and has softwares like NISA,
UGS, and Auto Cad Version 1.4.
Recently it has added Hydraulic & Pneumatic Control Lab with SCADA Software, under its
modernization of Lab Programme. It also has Microprocessor Training kit.
The Departments major research areas are Metal Cutting, Machine Tool, CAD-CAM and
Quality Control. The students have taken up projects in ADA, NAL, ISRO, HMT, CMTI and
BEML, and some of the projects include design and development of application based softwares
required for those organisations. The Department regularly conducts short-term courses,
Workshops and National Seminars on current topics.
Department of Computer Science and Engineering

Facilities
The CS Division has 15 spacious computer centres with more than 400 Computers. The
Department has the latest hardware and software, multimedia projectors, laser and colour inkjet
printers, digital camera, scanning and image transformation facilities. The Campus Wide
Networking facility connects all the departments, hostel, office and Golden jubilee block. 13
different servers including higher range servers running on the LAN.
A separate Internet Laboratory houses about 60 computers, has a dedicated leased line
connectivity of 10Mbps along with 3 separate ISDN lines for Video Conferencing. The Internet
facility is available for use from 7.30a.m. to 10.00p.m. The Computer Science Division has
deparmtnet Library with 1600 books offer service to the department staff and students.

Chemistry Department has facilities for conducting micro analytical work, chemical
investigation of engineering materials including analysis of ores and alloys. Instruments like,

are used to impart knowledge on instrumentation in analytical work. The research interest of the
faculty deals with theoretical aspects of electrochemistry including the study of phasetransitions
in adsorbed systems.
