Learn to specify physical choices,
Work on connecting to the text at an organic level
Explore the connection between self and character.
Scene work and projects/exercises will widen the sphere of personal voice and imagination.
In class readings will provoke discussion regarding the creative process and introduce the students to acting
theory.
Attendance:

ALLOWED 3 UNEXCUSED ABSENCES. AFTER THE THIRD YOU WILL FAIL THE COURSE.
TWO TARDIES EQUAL ONE ABSENCE.
The instructor will not catch you up if you are unexcused.
Your participation grade will be effected by tardies and unexcused absences.
EXCUSED ABSENCES: Documentation must be provided. Illness, death in the family, and university
trips/events are the only acceptable excused absences.
Any performances or work missed due to an unexcused absence cannot be made up. YOU WILL GET A
ZERO. This class is based on in-class participation and experiential learning, your attendance is necessary
to comprehend class concepts.
Should a situation arise that will require extended excused absences from the course an incomplete or
withdrawal from the course may be necessary as this studio course is experiential and information is
acquired by taking part in class. This will be decided on a case-by-case basis between the student and
instructor.

Participation Grade:

Participation encompasses not only your willingness to work in class but also your incorporation of class
concepts into your performances. Grades depend on a combination of effort and attitude in proportion with
technical achievement.
I expect you to take notes on all lectures, discussions, coaching sessions (not just yours!).

ALL WORK MUST BE PREPARED FOR THE DAY IT IS DUE!

Please come to class comfortably dressed and ready to move. No tight clothing, no reveling clothing, no
open toe shoes, high heels, etc think workout gear.
I hope and expect you will find this class a safe place to share, learn, and discover. Therefore I ask that
when class begins you come ready to have a good time, keep an open mind and ALWAYS respect your
classmates and teacher. I measure participation based on what each individual contributes to class
environment and discussion, I accept each person may do this in different ways and will be looking at your
personal growth. You are graded on your process as much as any final product.
CELL PHONES OFF. If your ringer goes off or if you answer a call or check a cell phone message in class,
I will mark down your final grade one-half letter and you will need to write a paper on the negative impact
of mobile communications on society.
EMAIL: Faculty, staff, and students are expected to maintain regular access to University email accounts.
You are expected to check your email regularly.
No disruptive or intolerant behavior or will be tolerated.

Your journal response is due per the dates below. You will write a personal response to 1-3 questions which will be posted on
BLACKBOARD. It is expected to use ideas, examples, and personal thoughts from the entire 5 weeks of class included in
the response. The journals serve as a forum for you to explore and chronicle what we are working on in class and your own
experiences with that work. Do not restate what happened in class, but rather how you FELT doing the work or your
REACTION to it with SPECIFIC EXAMPLES and how that helped you to understand the concepts being discussed.
I expect approximately 1 page of response, single spaced, 12 font, times new roman, 1 inch margins..
