Working Answer

1. Explain breefly, based on a mining overview, what could be reach through data
analysis.
Currently, mining collects a lot of data but generally less than 1% is used for making a
decision or execution of a task. The future of mining in the constant search to reduce
process variability and uncertainty of activities requires a thorough analysis of the
information collected, application of mathematical algorithms that allow five main factors:
- Deeper understanding of the resource base, one of the biggest challenges is to get to
know what exists beneath the surface with less uncertainty, this view of the application of
geostatistical tools for predicting models increasingly reliable geological is being applied.
- Optimization of material and equipment flow: From this point of view the acquisition of
information in real time, has allowed making more and more accurate decisions in a
process, and not focus on achieving a monthly or annual production but able to respect the
production plan must also be able to improve the performance and use of equipment, so
you can create optimized schedules.
- Improved anticipation of failures: Application rests mainly have plans to increasingly
accurate maintenance through predictive maintenance based on mathematical models of
reliability; anticipate the occurrence of a failure that could mean an unscheduled stop to
decrease the performance of equipment.
- Increased mechanization through: In order to have increasingly less controllable
processes and operational variability also reduce the risk of exposure of people to work
confined and high severity.
- Monitoring of real-time performance versus plan: One of the benefits of real-time data is
the status and location of each piece of equipment in a mining operation and every
second, particularly if is operating in accordance with or beyond plan.

2. Do you think worldwide mining companies will embed what is proposed in the
article in order to improve productivity?
The global trend of declining productivity, which in an environment of low prices and ever
deeper reserves, difficult to profitability, it is for them that in view of being able to reduce
process variability and uncertainty same, technological innovations and information
analysis also obtain real-time data for better decision-making point in the near future to
improve productivity and make businesses more profitable. From my point of view all the
points raised in the article are beginning to be applied in all mines in the world and the
current environment is demanding accelerate the innovation process.

3. Based on what was reviewed so far in the lectures, what part(s) of the mining
value chain are related to main idea of the article?
Mainly the implementation of digital technologies is opening up new ways of managing the
variability and improves productivity, this in front of an environment of declining global
economy, with the key points:
Obtaining of data, it ie the incorporation of sensors that can expeditiously obtain
information regarding the components of the machines.
Analysis of the data, applying statistical tools for data integration and prediction of likely
future events. At this point concerning the duties applied geoestaditicos geological
modeling algorithms for reducing uncertainty in estimating geological models.
-Interaction Man-Machine, the application of mobile devices, improves interaction and
knowledge of what happens in a machine and what steps should be taken to optimize the
process.
-a Marked both by the use of information flows to reduce variability in decision-making and
by deploying the most centralized, mechanized operations to reduce variability in the
mining execution change

4. Do you think the peruvian mining industry, based on technical and cultural
viewpoint, is willing to accept the changes that are proposed in the article?
Peru has been characterized in recent years by opening global class mines, which are
behind the innovation and finding new technologies to harness and ensure access to new
resources, thus increasing the economic benefit of enterprises. Much of both underground
and surface mines have begun implementing technological tools and sensors to obtain
real-time information to make better decisions and improve performance of equipment also
reduce variability and uncertainty in the process. Likewise the low price environment and
declining productivity are forcing mining companies generally have more efficient
processes, which can only be achieved with the implementation of the exhibited
technologies, this from the standpoint of continuing to do profitable businesses.
