Lifestyle/Media Consumption and Activities: the

lifestyle of these characters would be alcohol

consumption, socialising with friends in a gang to
escape the oppression of society, this appeals to
dick Hebdidge idea of social groups making their
own sub culture to make their own fit in society.
There maybe some drug use to further divert
them away from the lifestyle they have. Would
consume the media products through YouTube or
television. Activities would include going to clubs,
maybe drug selling, taking drugs, drinking alcohol.

TARGET AUDIENCE PROFILE

The typical socio-economic values of rap primary

audience/listeners are social climbers, people who
listen and aspire to escape the run down society
that they live and aspire to be like the rap artist
they listen to, with lots of money, nice cars, home
and clothes living the perfect lifestyle.

Much of the target audience would listen to rap to

divert themselves away from their lifestyle and
vision themselves being the artist. This alludes to
Blumler and Katz theory of diversion but also
personal relationships as the artist connects with
the music and the lyrics emotionally relating to
what the artist is talking about.

These individuals are seen as a moral panic to

society, their characteristics and costume connote
anger and danger as they are seen as gangsters.
They cause a moral panic as these individuals
stereotypically are presented to have a lack of
education, job, or morals so are usually presented
as criminals within the media.

Gender: Predominately male audience who listen

to the rap genre. I have chosen this genre as the
idea of rap has escalated from the stereotypical
black male oppressed by a patriarchal society
looking to break the conformity.

The audience is a niche audience for the rap genre,

and this is dependent on the artist that my song is
from. The artist is a hybrid genre between
skateboarding hippies mixed with gangster rappers.
This would be different if you would listen to
mainstream gangster rap such as 50 Cent or Kanye
west that would receive mainstream radio and
television play.

Social class: E social grading, come from poor areas who struggle
to live. This also alludes to the life matrix tool as someone who is
most likely to be listening to the rap genre are angry at the lifestyle
they live and aspire to be like the rappers. This tends to appeal to
the struggling singles in the life matrix tool as they tend to have
high aspirations with low economic wealth/class.

Age: the target audience of the rap genre tends to

be young males between the ages of 16 and 24.
this is because much of the older generation
stereotypically do not understand or cannot relate
to the music within the rap genre so tend not to be
avid listeners unlike the younger generation who
can relate to the lyrics of the oppressive out
casting society that they live.
