Issue And Challenges In Integrating ICT In Teaching And Learning In Malaysian School

Nowadays, Ministry of Education has been introduced new method of teaching using ICT
to the students. The technology especially internet can be most effective way to increase the
student knowledge.In order to make the plan successfully, Malaysia has took a big step in
education world by introducing Smart school .It have new elements in term of teaching-learning
practices and school management in order to prepare the children for the information Age.
School takes a creative thinking as an important aspect during teaching and learning process.

The uses of ICT are the most concern of the Malaysian Government.The ICT has been
used widely especially at the school.ICT or information and communications technology is a
communication device or application.Basically,ICT is an effort to teach the valuable knowledge
and skills of computing and communications.ICT are able to create a greater acces to information
and communication in population.The role of ICT in education sector is to provide the prospects
and trends of integrating information and communication technology (ICT) into the general
educational activities.ICT are able to make the lessons more enjoyable.

Instead of using ICT can help students enhance knowledge about technology,it can
cause some of the challenges issue .When using a technology, it takes a huge cost to buy the
devices .The investment of facilities must be heavy.Instead of spend a money to buy a devices,
The government of the Ministry of Education unable to provide maintenance,hardware and
software for school as it is highly cost.Other than that,lack of staff that have a well developed
skill of ICT causes the ICT teachers have to overcome the problem.The uses of ICT in education
is a new step that propose by the ministry of education that causes a problem to the senior
teacher.The senior teacher are not familiar using the ICT because they lack of ICT
knowledge.They prefer using a traditional method which is whiteboard when teaching.Thus ,it
causes problem when required to follow the system because they are difficult to adapt to the new
environment..However,the usage of ICT causes students to become passive because the
technology have all the information that they needed.All information can be retrieve by just a
click of finger so this causes them to be lack of thinking skill when all the things they wanted to
know are there in the internet.

The solution to overcome the issue is to provide the early ICT training programs for the
teacher and staff in school.The material is the knowledge about ICT-pedagogy instruction .By
this training,it enhance the confidence level of the teacher with ICT and help to upgraded the ICT
learning skills.On the other hand,the Ministry of Education plays a role by upgrades the
equipment such as hardware and software of new installation.This effort will encourage them to
be familiar with ICT and develop their learning skill.

Conclusion,the improvement in ICT has lead to the diffusion of technology in


education.Thus,it can make changes in education and learning.ICT would bring many
advantages to the student or other people if they used it wisely but it also can bring
disadvantages.Thus, the government should take appropriate step in order to overcome the issues
faces by the student and teacher so that it will produce a student with well developed skill about
ICT.
