Event Ad
Description:
An Event Ad that was created for a fictional event of a Half Marathon, benefiting Mental Illness Awareness.
Course/Instructor:
Comm 130
Jason Stucki
Date:
10/11/2015
Programs:
Microsoft Word
Objective:
To create an original event ad using at least one scanned image and only Microsoft Word application.
Process:
I did quite a bit of research before starting this project. I learned that the area I chose has a tulip festival every
year and that mental illness is highly common in that area. First I scanned my image, then cropped to the
appropriate size. Then I inserted my image into a Word document. I then added a bright pink box over the
image and chose a font that was bold and professional. I then added a light gray box to the bottom of the page
added typography and a green mental illness awareness ribbon behind the font. I also added the green strokes
to the left side and bottom of the page to tie in with the green ribbon.

Flier
Description:
This project was a flyer intended to advertise an upcoming event for a business seminar. This seminar was for
students graduating from college, who would be entering into the business world.

Programs:
Adobe InDesign
Objective:
To create a flier using Adobe InDesign
Process:
For this project, I first sketched a few ideas for the layout. I then chose one layout and created it using many
tools within the Adobe InDesign program. I used the rectangle frame tool to create the frames around phrases
and pictures. I also used the color tools to create different shades of colors I wanted to use. From this project,
I mainly learned how to use InDesign; I learned how to use the formatting and editing options within the
program. I also learned a bit more about creating visual interest. Although I think things look neat and tidy
when they symmetrical this does not create visual interest. This is something I still need more practice with, but
I did learn a little more about it through this project.

Create a Logo for a fictional or non-fictional company

Adobe Illustrator
Objective:
To create a logo for a compan using Adobe Illustrator
Process:
First I decided on the company I was going to design the logo for. I chose a fictional company Bicycle co.
which does rentals, sales and repairs of bicycles. I then decided to focus on a more casual audience versus a
mountain biking crowd. I began sketching a few ideas. I was then able to enjoy getting to apply some things I
have learned using Adobe illustrator to design three different logo ideas. I really enjoyed using the pen tool to
trace a picture of a bike. After taking a vote from classmates and friends, I chose the most popular one and did
some refining. I refined the typography, specifically the size of the cs so they would be the same thickness as the
rest of the font. I also designed the one logo pictured above using complementary colors, grayscale colors, and a
solid color background with white font.

Montage
Description:

Programs:
AdobePhotoshop
Process:
First, I cropped the background image to 8.511. I then used the Lasso tool on the image of Christ then added
him to the background picture. With black paint and a 100% opacity, soft-edged brush, I painted away the hard
image edges. With a larger black brush at 40 % I blended the image of Christ so that he appears to be a subtle
piece of the image. I added some type with two contrasting fonts, then selected a color that was similar to the
silhouette of the girl.

Process:
For this project, I first decided to take a picture. I wanted to find something beautiful and colorful. I feel like my
photograph is a nice picture, but isnt the colorful photo I wanted. I then chose the complementary color scheme
of blue & orange.I edited the photo using PhotoShop. Then created the background, again, within PhotoShop
.

Business Card
& Stationery
Description:
To create matching letterhead and business card designed using a personally created logo.
Course/Instructor:
Comm 130

Date:

Programs:
Adobe Illustrator & InDesign
Process:
I created the logo using two stars overlapping each other. I then found a type that had a pointed A to fit in the
arm of the star.
I decided to make my first page a letterhead. I positioned the placed logo in the top left corner of my letterhead.
I made sure to keep it at least .5 away from the edges. I added a double line stroke across the top of the page.
Then I typed my contact information into a text box and positioned it on the right hand side of the letterhead. I
also added a large copy of the star logo as a watermark and changed the opacity to 5%.
For my business card I copied/pasted the logo onto one side of the logo. I then copied/pasted the star portion of
the logo onto the other side, along with my contact information. I made sure, on this side, that my name was the
most prominent portion of the card. Then I aligned my contact information to the lower right of the card.

Text Wrangler & Photoshop
Process:
I created this web page using only TextWrangler. I had never seen or written any HTML/CSS. It was interesting
to see how you could make a web page by only using a simple text editor. It was also interesting to use the http://
www.W3.org HTML validator. It was useful to have something check to see if I had any problems with my code.
After I marked up all my content and inserted my image, I attached a pre made CSS document to my HTML.
I then used the colors from my logo as the colors for my web page. I found these colors by opening Photoshop
and using the eyedropper tool. I also changed my fonts to Myriad Pro & Times New Roman. The most
challenging part of this project was learning how to adjust the centering of the logo. A fellow-classmate taught
me how & I was able to give the logo a nice center alignment.

Programs:
Adobe InDesign/Adobe Illustrator/Adobe Photoshop
Process:
For this project I created a tri-fold brochure to showcase a fictional company, New England cruise line, using
Adobe Indesign. First, I created a logo using Adobe Illustrator.
Then I wrote text for the inside columns, which helped to me to choose what photos I wanted to use. I then
created the shape on the front page, using the pen tool and inserted a picture. I then inserted the text in
columns, added pictures and edited the text so that there were no hyphens.
