I took this picture using my little Canon PowerShot camera. Even
though it was a point and shoot camera I was able to take this
nice shot. I then took my image into Photoshop and cropped it
to a 66 inch square. I then selected the background using the
quick selection tools, and applied the gaussian blur filter. I finally
desaturated the the background color.

Montage
Description:
Inspirational Montage created from 3 blended images and
design elements.
Date:

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 12
Emily Kunz
Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe Photoshop
Objectives:
Create an inspirational message by using images
blended together to form a montage with an inspirational
typography quote.
Process:
1. I cropped the background image of the Temple to 8.511.
2. I selected the couple image and sized them appropriately
with in the rule of thirds for the image and moved them to
the background image, then I added a mask.
3. With black paint and a 100% opacity, soft-edged brush, I
painted away the hard image edges.
4. With a larger black brush at 42% opacity and 55% flow, I
blended the image into the background, so it looks like they
are walking into the scene to the temple.
5. I repeated the process with the sheet music except I went
heavier with the mask/paint brush over the temple and
couple so they would stand out some more in the image.
6. I added some type with two contrasting fonts to help
portray my message better, I also added a drop shadow
layer style to make the text more legible.
Flier
Description:
black and white mock flier.
Date:

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 12
Emily Kunz
Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator
Objectives:
Create a black and white mock flier used to promote an
upcoming Graduate Leadership Conference. Use the tools
learned in the Adobe program to complete the project.
Process:
The final mock up was created primarily in Adobe Indesign
and partially in Adobe Photoshop. I first started with some
ideas in my head that I sketched out to get a better idea
of the layout and space I had to use. I chose to focus the
design and layout of the flier based on the word edge that
was used in the wording for the flier. I aligned my elements
with edges and angles so it grabbed your attention and
directed you to the overall message of the flier.

Logos
Description:
Create a logo for a company.
Date:
November 1, 2015
Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 12
Emily Kunz
Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Illustrator
Objectives:
Sketch and then create three logo concepts for a mock company.
Process:
When creating this logo I brainstormed some ideas for a mock
company that I could create a logo for. Once I had some ideas
I started sketching out some thoughts and then took those
sketches and recreated them in Adobe Illustrator. I used the pen
tool for almost all of the logo and then started to add color to the
logo. I then chose a typeface that went with the message and
theme of the logo. I finished it all off with aligning it how I wanted
and tried to make it have a painted effect to go with the theme of
the logo.

PhotoDesign
Description:
Use photography skills to create a beautiful image in
photoshop and add design elements.
Date:
October 18, 2015
Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 12
Emily Kunz
Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Photoshop
Canon DSLR Camera
Objectives:
Demonstrate my photography and photoshop editing skills
with an original image by adding color and design elements.
Process:
I planned my photo by setting up the color scheme and
message I wanted my audience to receive. Then I used my
digital SLR camera to take the photo. I had my daughter
just play and I took lots of photos. This picture was exactly
what I was envisioning and worked perfect for this project.
Next I used photoshop to adjust the color settings and
image size to create the angles I wanted. I added in the
quote so it would go well with the image and complete the
overall message. Finally I added the design elements and
color scheme to finish the photo.
LetterHead

Matching letterhead and business card designed using a
personally created logo.

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe InDesign
Adobe Illustrator
Objectives:
Create a new logo for a new company, once the logo is
designed create a matching letterhead and business card set.
Process:
I first thought about what logo I could create. This was the
most difficult part of the process, but then I thought about
creating a logo for a hair stylist and came up with a few
sketches of scissors and other hair tools. The scissors was
the strongest of my sketches and once I had and Idea I went
to work making it in digital format. I used Adobe Illustrator
to create the logo and then I transferred the logo to Adobe
indesign to put the letterhead and business card together.
I wanted a clean repeating pattern and after finding the
typeface I got to work making the matching set. I am very
pleased with the final outcome.

Web Page

Program(s)/Tools:
Brackets and Adobe Photoshop
Objectives:
Size and optimize an original logo as a .png for a web page.
Write content to describe the process of creating your logo and
how it appeals to a target audience.
Acquire a working knowledge of HTML and a basic
understanding of CSS when creating a web page.
Identify hex colors for web design.
Compress multiple files in a zipped folder to attach as one file.
Process:
I created this web page using only Brackets. I have had a little
experience with HTML/CSS. I think that by working with a larger
skill set I was able to challenge myself to create something that
brought more visual interest to the page.
After I created the page in html format I was able to use more
skills learned to style the page and make it fit with the theme of
the logo I was showcasing. This is my favorite part of working
with a webpage because you get to see the different parts that
are created in html have some style and organization on the
page. I love that you can style almost every aspect of the page
and make it unique.
Art Poster

Adobe Photoshop
Objectives:
Create a new project to add to your portfolio.
Process:
I created this art print poster to add to my portfolio and show
case my skills in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. I
wanted to create a art piece that I could display in my
home and share with friends. I also wanted to make a piece
that showcased some design skills I learned thoughout the
course of this communications class. I researched and found
elements that would go with the vintage theme and modern
audience I was trying to appeal to.
Event Ad
Description:
Create a full color bleed Event Ad.

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 12

Program(s)/Tools:
Microsoft Word
Scanner
Objectives:
Create a full color bleed Event Ad for a company whose only
design resource is Microsoft Word.
Scan the Image into Microsoft Word and use the basic tools
with in the program.
Process:
I scanned the image of the little girl from a old magazine
ad. After getting the sizing that I needed to have the picture
bleed off the page I imported it into Microsoft word and
enlarged it to 8.5 x 11 inches. After seeing what I had to
work with I planed out the message and how I wanted it to
be portrayed. I got to work adding the event information
and then picking the right font choices together. Then after
some good critique sessions I refined the message and
added in some color. Lastly I printed it out and mounted
it on a thick chipboard and then trimmed the edges so it
would be a full color bleed ad.
