Read the following passage.

Fears over radioactive food from Japan

Drinking water, some vegetables and milk from areas around the Fukushima I nuclear power plant (

) were found to contain radioactive substances at levels higher than the safety limits, two
weeks after the nuclear power plant was damaged by earthquake and tsunami (). Cows produced

milk with a high level of radioactive substances, probably because they ate radioactive feedstuff or drank
radioactive water. After eating such food, some types of radioactive substances may cause damage to our
body cells and lead to cancers. It is particularly important to protect children from radioactive food,
because they are at a much higher risk of cancers after absorbing radioactive substances.
(Reference: Pearson Education Asia Limited 2011)

(a) What is the likely reason why cows produced milk with a high level of radioactive substances near the
nuclear plant?
(b) Why is it particularly important to protect children from radioactive food?
(c) Despite the risk of accidents, why is nuclear power used? Suggest TWO advantages of using nuclear power.
