Introduction: Write 2 sentences on introduction, aim of the study.
a. Dentin hypersensitivity is a problem relatively common in the adult
population. Dentin hypersensitivity is defined as the short, sharp pain
originating from the dentine exposed to the oral environment, in response
to stimuli chemical, thermal and physical.
b. One of the biggest problems that affect health is the indiscriminate use of
medicines; and within is the administration of antibiotics, which becomes
the main drug problem, bringing as consequences undesirable effects to
humans and the bacterial resistance. Misuse of antibiotics is one of the
reasons weight to increase the risk of resistance bacterial community.
Materials and Methods:
1. Ethics approval - ?

a. The present study was submitted for consideration of Committee for

Bioethics at the University of Antioquia, which he gave its approval
for the development of this proposal.
b. For the implementation of this research was featured the approval of
the dental school at the University Angels Catholic Chimbote
considering the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki and the
General Health Act of Peru ( Law No. 268 429 )

2. Consent from the participants - ?

a. Informed consent
b. Informed consent
3. The reason why was this sample chosen?

a. A total of 300 patients who attended the Faculty Dentistry at the

University of Antioquia, following a call for participation in the
study , 100 patients were selected , 96 of which ended the study.
Four patients continued in the study for various reasons, including
the more common was the change of address. the sample by arm it
is large enough to assay Clinical randomized, according to the
literature reviewed thereon .
b. The work was done with the patients treated in the subject Oral and
Maxillofacial Surgery II. The sample population obtained was
determined using the percentage as parameter of patients with dry
socket , assuming 17.3% for patients without antibioterapia12 and
4% in patients with antibioterapia12 was 87 patients per group

4. Inclusion and exclusion criteria for the participants

a. Inclusion criteria included: men and women over eighteen years

of age from Aburr Valley and diagnosis dentin hypersensitivity, with
no signs teeth and symptoms of irreversible pulp pathology.
Exclusion criteria included: patients without history of drug
treatment with mouthwashes or creams for sensitive teeth ; patients
they were not carrying orthodontic appliances , as these may
interfere with the evaluation of pain ; patients without known
allergies to submit the active ingredients used in the study ;
patients without moderate gingival or periodontal disease or
severe ; Patients were not pregnant at the time of the selection ;
patients without teeth active caries , cracks or extensive
restorations .
b. Inclusion criteria included: They were chosen for the study older
patients ASA I 18 years had as an indication that the extraction a
tooth for prosthetic purposes, orthodontic or with stemmatological
diagnosis of chronic pulp necrosis with or without periapical process
and irreversible pulpitis.
Exclusion criteria included: They Excluded Patients who refused
to participate , allergic penicillin, patients who were receiving some
sort drug therapy before surgery , patients presenting extraction is
indicated in treatment pieces duct made longer than 6 months ,
patients They are requiring extractions of third molars , patients
smokers, alcoholics and / or drug addicts. In addition patients
requiring the application of anesthesia intraligamental , they
presented systemic diseases, presented Physical and mental
changes that may prevent the realization postexodoncias of
indications.

5. Was the baseline assessed?

a. tooth sensitivity to thermal or tactile stimuli

b. antibiotic therapy to prevent post extraction dry socket

6. How did they do randomisation? Was it a block randomisation,

tossing a coin etc.

a. It was obtained a random sample of 100 people, men and women,

aged 18 a randomized , controlled, using a control group ( placebo)
and experimental ( toothpaste for sensitive teeth ) it was designed.
b. randomly divided into 2 groups: the study group of 87 patients
received antibiotics (amoxicillin 500mg ) and the control group
received 87 individuals placebo with the same dose and physical
characteristics similar frequency
7. Single blinded or double blinded or triple blinded
a. Triple blinded
b. Single blinded
8. Who were blinded in that study? (Investigator, participants ..?)

a. Nor patient, or clinical or statistical they met what kind of cream it

was supplied to patients (placebo- active component).
b. Participants
9. What were the outcomes and how did they assess them? Whether
using questionnaire, laboratory tests and or clinical assessment?

a. The results show that there was a decrease in both groups

hypersensitivity, but toothpaste for sensitive teeth showing greater
sensitivity decreased in all measurements, with the various tests
applied. For statistical analysis of data was used SPSS 15.0 software
owned by the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Antioquia. In a
first approach to identifying possible differences between
treatments, a summary of the measures taken in the three periods.
Performing three calculations shown for each Measurement type:
difference measurement at week 4 compared to baseline.
Difference measurement at week 8 compared to baseline.
Difference measurement at week 8 compared for the week. These
results are shown in Tables 2, 3 and 4 for measurements of
subjective test, air (thermal) and constant pressure test (Hand-held
instrument), respectively. The statistical test was used to calculate t
mean difference due to the form of distribution presenting said
differences Normal (Tested and graphics normality they were
previously checked). In general form significant changes observed in
both treatments, experimental (S) and placebo (P) with a
significance level of p <0.05 * only between the baseline and week
4, and the start of trial and week 8; but between weeks 4 and 8

were not significant differences in treatments for three types of

measurements.
b. The study involved a total of 174 patients UN, the 87 which received
500mg amoxicillin VO As antibiotic therapy and 87 placebo patients.
The presence of alveolitis in both groups showed a slight difference
in frequency, Sin embargo to perform statistical test showed no
Significant Differences. In analyzing the covariates, gender itself
found that Risk of dry socket with antibiotic therapy decreases in the
male gender (OR = 0.324 ) but not Manera statistically significant
( p = <0.05 ) . In analyzing the UN age groups increase in number
obser ACCORDING alveolitis advance age (OR = 0.411) but does not
show Significant differences ( p = 0.451 > 0.05 ) . Finally As for
groups of teeth no differences THERE in the presence of dry socket
(p = 0.307 > 0.05).
10.

Data analysis: What tests were employed?

a. visual analogue pain analysis

b. Multivariate analysis logistic regression
