Chinese Tai-Chi Sword New!


Chinese traditional practices of well-being created this centuries-old practice combining
martial arts and mind-body wellness. Students will learn Tai-Chi essential techniques,
Chen style Tai-Chi sword 49 form and Chen style Tai-Chi fan form as well.

Chinese Martial Arts


Students will learn hand-by-hand the traditional martial arts, including basic Kung Fu
training, Shaolin Fist and Shaolin weapons.

Chinese Boxing New!


Students will learn about Chinese boxing and the differences between Chinese and
Western forms of boxing. Chinese boxing includes kicks, hits, wrestling, and catching
with four techniques as the main attacks. Defense techniques and footwork are included.

Chinese Traditional Medicine and Healthy Lifestyle New!


For thousands of years, TCM, including herbal medicine, acupuncture and massage therapy has made great contributions to peoples health in China as well as in Japan, Korea
and Chinas other neighboring countries. Constituting a harmonious lifestyle linking
people and nature, TCM not only focuses on how to treat diseases but also how to prevent them. In this course, students will learn the basic tenets of TCM and Chinese wellness culture, promoting fitness and benefiting ones entire life.

Traditional Sinology for Children New!


This class will explore the thirteenth-century Song Dynasty Three Character Classic (Sanzijing)
with children through story-telling. The purpose is to enrich students Chinese language skills,
improve their understanding of Chinese culture and provide role-models for thoughtful, self-aware
behavior. Students will have a showcase at the end of the session. January 28 - April 28, 2016

Chinese For Business


This valuable course is specifically designed for people who would like to learn aspects of the
Chinese language essential and necessary for conducting business with and in China. Lan-guage
comprehension and an introduction to culturally applicable business strategies will be included.

will provide an introduction to Chinese with an emphasis on traditional culture. Topics include an

HSK Test Prep


CIUA serves as the first internet-based Chinese Test Center in Arizona. The Center offers Chinese
proficiency tests - Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK) - twice a year. This is the international standardized test of Chinese proficiency, approved by the Chinese Department of Education. The courses are designed for those who are preparing to take the HSK exam.

Chinese Traditional Painting


Chinese Traditional Painting is about the Fine Arts and culture of China. In this course you will
study calligraphy from the basics, such as brush strokes and their movements, great calligraphers'
pieces, and then finish with your very own work of calligraphy. You will also study Chinese Painting from the basics, such as brush strokes, their movements, color usage, great painters and famous works, and then finish with your very own work of painting.

Erhu Performance
The erhu is an age-old and popular stringed instrument of China. It has been more than one
thousand years since its invention. It is rich in capacity of expression, and is the most common of the Chinese folk musical instruments.

Guzheng Performance
The Guzheng is a Chinese musical instrument with a 2000 year history. Its a plucked zither
with 21 strings and movable bridges. CIUA will provide instruments used during the class.

The four-stringed plucked instrument sometimes called the


Chinese lute. It is one of the most popular traditional Chinese
instruments and has been played for almost two thousand
years. Several related instruments in East and Southeast Asia
are derived from the pipa. Fee: $78

Ruan Performance New!


The plucked four-stringed lute called run is one of the most
characteristic Chinese traditional instruments with a 2000year history. Today, the ruan has been further developed;
from a single instrument to a family of five sizes ranging from
soprano to contrabass, that has greatly expanded both the instruments sound amplitude and expressive force. Fee: $78
