Before you begin
Section A
Suggestions
Practise one exercise at a time.
Practise a unit at least twice.
Check the answers in the answer key.
Write a sentence of your own using each of the key
words, phrases or expressions used in the particular
exercise.
Use the key words, phrases and expressions that you
have learnt in a particular exercise in your everyday
language.
How to attempt the exercises
First look at the exercise. The exercises generally have 1
to 10 tasks. Then play the audio. You will hear a sentence
or a conversation or a talk for each task. After you hear
the sentence or the conversation or the talk, pause the
audio for 10 seconds. Use this time to attempt the task.
Then go on to the next task and repeat the same proce-
dure. Study the given example.
Example:
On the audio, you will hear:
(man): 1. Ive got a flat tyre.
Pause the audio
In the booklet, you will read:
1. tire tyre
Tick the correct option. In this case, you should tick the second
option because that is the word you heard.
Play the audio for the next number.

Suggestions
Complete at least one test in one sitting.
Read the instructions carefully before attempting the
tests.
Check the answers in the answer key to determine
your score.
How to attempt each test type
Test: Type 1
Follow the instructions printed in the question paper.
There are ten tests of this type.
Test: Type 2
This test type is similar to Section A exercises. But in
this case, after each question, the audio contains the
allotted time gap. So, do not pause the audio manually.
Use this time gap to answer the question.
You are not supposed to replay the audio for any
particular question. You should listen to the audio only
once.
There is only one test of this type. The test has three
sections.
Test: Type 3
In this test type, you should attempt all the tasks as
you listen and not after you listen. So, there are no
time gaps allotted.
You will have to listen to the audio, read the questions
and give your answers all at the same time.
In this test type, you are asked to either circle a particu-
lar letter or write a few words. So, read the printed
instructions very carefully.
You are not supposed to replay the audio for any
particular question. You should listen to the audio only
once.
There is only one test of this type. The test has three sections.
