Intheearlymodernperiod,thewordfartwasnotconsideredespeciallyvulgaritevensurfacedinliterary
works.Forexample,SamuelJohnson'sADictionaryoftheEnglishLanguage,publishedin1755,included
theword.Johnsondefineditwithtwopoems,onebyJonathanSwift,theotherbySirJohnSuckling.[7][8]
BenjaminFranklinpreparedanessayonthetopicfortheRoyalAcademyofBrusselsin1781urging
scientificstudy.In1607,agroupofMembersofParliamenthadwrittenaribaldpoementitledThe
