A 20-year man was shot dead in a Jersey City Mini Market this Monday,
prompting an emotional and tense scene that has become all too
common within the community. Jersey City police did not release the
name of the man, his exact age, or any details about the apparent
murder, which would be the city's 18th this year if it is ruled a
homicide. The shooting was reported to have started at 12:30 pm at
the Los Yolersos Mini Market on Ocean Avenue, and was filled with
close to a hundred shoppers during the shooting. Authorities searched
the area for a suspect who was wearing a gray top, blue jeans, and had
tattoos on the back of his neck. If declared a murder, today's tragedy
would be the 23rd homicide in Hudson County this year, and the eighth
since Oct. 7.
and how this has worked in the other states that have legalized
marijuana. Senator Nicholas Scutari, chair of the committee, has also
introduced legislation to legalize marijuana. The criminalization of
marijuana is the major prompt for Scutari in the legalization of the
drug, which he explains as being costly, unfair and compromises public
safety. New Jersey wastes more than $125 million dollars a year
arresting people for marijuana possession, with more than 20,000
people are arrested for marijuana possession in New Jersey every year.
This is just the first step in what may lead Nj in joining states such as
Colorado and California in the legalization of marijuana.
