Introduction
TheFieldDevelopmentProjectisanopportunitytoassimilatetheskillsandunderstanding
acquiredthroughthelecturesandtutorialsofthetaughtmodules.Datafromrealwellsinan
oilfieldissuppliedtothestudent,theresponsibilityforthesubsequentanalysis,evaluation
andrecommendationsproducedfromitbelongtotheindividual.

2.1AimsandObjectives
Theaimoftheprojectistoproduceatechnicalandeconomicanalysisofaprospectiveoil
field,leadingtotheproductionofadevelopmentplanwhichissuitableforpresentationto
Management.
ThedecisionsmadebyManagementastotheviabilityoftheprospectwillbebasedonthe
followingissues:

Isprofitabledevelopmentpossible?
Whatarethelikelyreservesandtheassociateduncertaintyinfluidcompositionand
compartmentalisation?
2.
Whatkindofdevelopmentplanshouldbeadopted?
Whatisthewellproductivityuncertaintyintheflowingintervalsandpermeability?
3.
Howwilluncertaintyinthedatabeaddressed?
Is sufficient information reported to enable a decision to be made or what further
informationisrequiredtoreducerisk?
ItisassumedthattheGovernmentholdthemineralrightsandassuchtheirenergypolicywill
ensurethat:

All economic hydrocarbon resources will be recovered paying due regard to the
managementofriskanduncertaintyinthedata.

Youareawareoftechnicalexperiencegainedelsewhereinthisoilprovince

2.2ContentofReport
Each student must submit a written (typed) report, as brief and concise as possible,
summarisingtheconclusions(seeattachedmarkingscheduleforguidanceastowhereyou
shoulddevoteyoureffort).Aswellasoutliningtheproposeddevelopmentplan,thereport
should,asaminimum,containsectionson:
Geology
:topstructure,lithology,coredata,reservoirdescription
FormationEvaluation :loganalysis,reservoirparameters,reservesestimates
ReservoirEngineering
:welltestanalysis,PVTdata,recoverymethod
Drilling
:drillingschedule,directionalplanning,casing
design,mudprogramme
ProductionTechnology
:completiondesign,gaslift,surfacefacilities,
pipelines
Economics&Commercial
Negotiations
:costestimates,cashflow,IRR,sensitivity
analysis
ReservoirManagement
&Monitoring
:productionplan
EnvironmentImpact
&Abatement
:stepstakentobringtheimpactoftheprojectonthe
environmenttowithinacceptablelimits,including
decommissioning
OverallReport
:integration,structureandquality
Anumberofdevelopmentoptionsshouldbeinvestigated.Theexaminerswillbeparticularly
interestedinthewayinwhichuncertaintyinthedataisdealtwithinthedevelopmentplan.
It is suggested that the space allocated to each topic be related to the marks allocated
(Appendix1).
Thebodyofthetyped(minimumfontsizeof12)reportshouldbeinsummaryformmaking
useoftablesandgraphswherepossibleandbearound100120pages.Thereshouldbean
ExecutiveSummary(2pages)andTechnicalSummary(<18pages).Theuseofcolourisat
theindividualsdiscretion.
