EXPERIZtt:rENTER
The
smoothing
decreases
somewhat.
Even allowing for this, the filter
choke for a filament power supply
to furnish 2 amperes wo ul d cost
much more than do those for a plate
supply.
The condenser cost would
be multiplied by an even greater
proportion unless elec trolytic con
densers were used.
The cost of a storage battery is,
of course, many times less than that
of such a fil t er would be.
This
bring s us to the trickle charger
battery combinations, which, wh ile
not a battery substitute, do provide
a reliable filam en t source from the
alternating current l ine. The trickle
charge r is probably at pre ent and
likely to remain for some time the
most satisfactory general purpose
filament supply. The use of UX-199
tubes in series will, however, prove
interesting to the experimenter and
to the service man.
Another type of A eliminator, in
which dry batteries are used as filter
condenser

in My Power
As there are two tubes available for use in the last audio stage where
considerable power is desired with perfect quality, some question has
arisen as to which of these tube s should be used in a given case.
The plate characteristic of these tubes ( UX-1 7 I and UX-2 I 0) or
(CX-371 and CX-310) are as follows:
